Chapter 418:
A bitter laugh escaped my throat, though my eyes stung painfully. “It seems you’ve become even better at deceiving women over the years.”
The air inside the car seemed to crackle with tension.
Ethan’s brows drew together sharply, his piercing gaze locking onto me.
The way he looked at me made my heart quiver, and I started to wish I hadn’t challenged him or mentioned that damned bite mark.

This confrontation had cornered me completely. Worse, it had torn open the walls I had spent three years building around my heart.
“Well, since you insist, then let’s talk about work.” I awkwardly looked away, clearing my throat as I forced myself into a cold, professional tone to cover the chaos inside me.
“You’re working overtime tonight.” He ignored my attempt to change the subject and calmly repeated the very demand that was driving me insane, his voice as cold and immovable as ever.
“Ethan Voss, have you had enough?” I laughed bitterly, all the frustration inside me finally spilling out. “Back then, you walked away from our mate bond without hesitation. But now you’re clinging to me like this without any shame. Why? You already have a child, yet you’re still acting like some deeply devoted lover. Don’t you think that’s disgusting? I honestly feel sorry for your mate!”
The moment the words left my mouth, Ethan’s handsome face visibly paled.
He stared at me silently, his sharp gaze unbearably intense, his thin lips pressed into a hard line.
After a long moment, it was as if his rationality finally returned. He took a slow breath, turned his eyes back to the road ahead, and tightened his grip on the steering wheel once more.
In an instant, he became that distant, untouchable Alpha again.
For the rest of the drive, he treated me with complete indifference.
He only discussed project timelines and the mall development plans, his tone cold and strictly professional. He never looked at me again.
When we arrived at the company building, he did not even spare me a glance. He simply said flatly, “Don’t be late tonight.”
Then he drove away. I stood there motionless, yet the relief I thought I would feel never came.
I knew Ethan too well. He was never someone fickle about love.
But even if he truly had no new mate, even if he really had been waiting for me all these years, the problems between us had never disappeared.
Ethan’s POV
Before dropping Lianne off, I had already promised Silas that after finishing work at the company, I would take him to the hospital to visit Jeremy.
After I picked him up, he kept his head lowered over his phone, lines of code flashing across the screen every few seconds.
I knew he was studying those new viruses again, the ones capable of paralyzing the global financial system.
His talent amazed me, but it also worried me deeply.
As the car approached the hospital, Silas finally put his phone away.
