Chapter 430:
I feared that if I relaxed my guard for even a moment, she would take the children and vanish from my life once again.
Lianne’s POV
I went into the bathroom and splashed cold water across my face, trying to suppress the bitterness rising within me.
When I opened the door and stepped out, the scene in the dining room immediately caught my eye.
Beneath the warm lighting, Ethan and Silas were chatting about something, both wearing the same genuine smile.
A sharp ache pierced my heart, and fresh tears threatened to sting my eyes.
It had been such a long time since I had seen Silas smile that brightly.
Throughout those three years overseas, he had always been mature beyond his years. There was constantly a sense of caution and seriousness surrounding him that no child should have carried.
Now that he was with Ethan, his Alpha father, he could finally act like the carefree little boy he was supposed to be.

Drawing a deep breath, I returned to the table and forced a cold expression onto my face.
“I’m all done.” I looked straight into Ethan’s eyes, my voice firm and unwavering. “Alpha, keep your promise and let me leave.”
Ethan hadn’t even had the chance to respond when Silas, seated beside me, suddenly went pale.
“Oh no…” He grabbed his stomach and doubled over in his chair, letting out a painful groan. “My stomach… it hurts… so badly…”
“Silas!” Panic shot through me. In that instant, every last one of my defenses disappeared.
I sprang to my feet and instinctively reached out to massage his stomach, just as I used to whenever he suffered from indigestion.
But halfway through the movement, I paused, suddenly realizing that Ethan was still watching.
I withdrew my hand awkwardly and lowered it, then turned to snap at Ethan instead. “Why are you just standing there? Do something! You’re his father!”
Ethan’s eyes darkened slightly, an unreadable emotion flickering across them. Yet he remained silent.
Instead, he stood up calmly, placed a hand against Silas’s forehead, and then looked at me with a trace of hesitation. “I have an urgent international video conference that can’t be postponed. Lianne, could I ask you to look after him for a while? The first-aid kit is in the bedroom upstairs.”
I looked at Silas. His face was pale, and sweat covered his forehead. My heart was thrown into chaos.
I knew this could very well be a trap, but I couldn’t bring myself to walk away.
“Fine, I’ll stay and take care of him.” I accepted the excuse, even though I knew exactly what it was.
Bending down, I lifted Silas into my arms. He weighed more than I had anticipated. But he simply wrapped his arms around my neck and buried his face against it.
The warmth of that closeness, the undeniable pull of our blood connection, made my eyes sting.
As I carried Silas upstairs toward the bedroom, I caught sight of Ethan standing at the bottom of the staircase, watching us.
I didn’t turn back. I only quickened my steps.
