Chapter 432:
“Really?” Silas clearly wasn’t convinced. He continued, “Then why have we been hiding from him? Mommy, Frank said my computer skills are really impressive now. If you want to look into something, I can help. I can break into anyone’s phone or computer. Even Daddy’s.”
His words made my heart skip a beat.
Frank’s warnings resurfaced in my mind, accompanied by memories from the past that still made me shudder.
Three years earlier, Ivy had repeatedly called Harold, despite knowing he suffered from a heart condition, simply to provoke him. During those calls, she had hurled the most vicious curses at me and the children I was carrying.
If I could obtain those call records, or proof that she had bribed doctors to falsify medical reports, I could completely shatter her innocent image and finally reveal to Ethan the true nature of the woman he had been so desperate to protect.
Given Silas’s exceptional skills, he could certainly assist me in acquiring that evidence.
But the thought lasted only a moment before I ruthlessly dismissed it.
I looked into Silas’s innocent eyes.
He was only three years old. His world should have been filled with bedtime stories and childhood wonder, not the ugly conflicts of wealthy families or the painful betrayals between his parents.
If I allowed him to investigate, he would inevitably uncover my medical records from the time I nearly had a miscarriage, see how completely Ivy had cornered and broken me, and even learn about the ways Ethan had hurt me while protecting Ivy.

Those painful discoveries would turn into a nightmare, one that would never leave him.
I was unwilling to trade my son’s emotional health for the sake of getting even.
As his mother, my duty was to protect him, not to drag him into my personal conflicts.
“There’s no need, Silas,” I said firmly while gently patting his back. “I can take care of everything myself. Right now, your only job is to sleep well and grow up healthy and happy.”
Silas looked as though he still wanted to argue, but beneath my gentle comfort, drowsiness eventually won.
He yawned, his eyelids growing heavier and heavier, yet he continued clutching my sleeve tightly, unwilling to let go.
When he finally fell asleep and his breathing slowed and steadied, the tension I had carried throughout the day gradually faded.
The room was silent except for the faint humming of the computers.
I lay beside Silas and stared up at the ceiling, my heart tangled in countless emotions.
There was guilt over Silas, uncertainty regarding Ethan’s sudden transformation, and a deep fear of what lay ahead. Together, they formed an inescapable web that left me feeling trapped.
Yet I knew I couldn’t retreat.
Without realizing it, I, too, slipped into a deep sleep, surrounded by Silas’s familiar scent.
Ethan’s POV
When I quietly pushed open the door to Silas’s bedroom, the room was illuminated only by the soft glow of a wall lamp.
Lianne had fallen asleep beside the bed, her slender body curled into a small bundle. Her long hair cascaded over her shoulders, concealing most of her face.
Even while asleep, her brows remained tightly furrowed, as though she were carrying an invisible weight too heavy to bear.
