Chapter 438:
Ruby’s kidnapping was nothing more than bait. A trap carefully set up to lure me straight into their hands.
Just then, my phone vibrated again. The bright screen displayed a familiar name. It was Ethan.
He must have realized something was wrong. Or maybe Noah had found a clue.
I stared at the name flashing on the screen as though it were the only hope I had. My trembling fingers reached for the answer button.
“Turn it off and give it to me.” The driver sounded harsh. At the same time, he pulled out a polished dagger, its blade gleaming coldly beneath the light. “Or I can’t promise your daughter will stay safe.”

“No! Don’t hurt her!” I cried desperately. Under his icy stare, I forced myself to swallow my tears. Gritting my teeth, I rejected Ethan’s call and turned off the phone.
At that moment, all I could do was pray. Pray that Ethan would somehow find Ruby and save her.
I handed over the phone. The driver snatched it from my grasp and immediately threw it out the window.
“Who sent you?” I demanded, struggling to stay calm as I stared at him. “How much are they paying? I’ll give you twice that amount. Just let my daughter go.”
The driver let out a mocking laugh. “You think money can get you out of this, Lianne? Think again.”
“Ethan Voss is the Alpha of this territory,” I shot back, hoping to rattle him. “If anything happens to me, he won’t let you escape. He’ll hunt you down.”
“Is that so?” The driver sneered and stepped on the accelerator, steering the car toward an even more isolated area. “By the time he finds you, you’ll be dead. I’m just here to do a job. After that, I’ll leave.”
Outside the window, the surroundings became increasingly desolate. Dense woods stretched endlessly along both sides of the road. More than once, the thought of throwing open the door and jumping out crossed my mind. But every time I remembered Ruby was in their hands, I lost all courage.
After what felt like forever, the car finally stopped near a remote riverside.
The place was deserted. The river churned violently, its roaring current sounding like a beast growling in the dark.
The driver got out and yanked me out of the car. Before I could react, he pulled a black cloth sack over my head.
Darkness enveloped me. Unable to see, my hearing and touch became heightened.
I felt him shove me forward. My feet slipped repeatedly on the slippery riverbank as he forced me onward.
The thunderous rush of water filled my ears. Mixed with it were rushed footsteps and strange noises that echoed all around me.
I had no idea how long we walked. Eventually, the ground beneath me leveled out. It felt as though we had entered an abandoned warehouse or factory.
A rusty metal door groaned open. The sound scraped through the silence like nails across steel.
The next moment, I was shoved forward. I stumbled and nearly fell.
