Chapter 439:
The air was foul. A thick smell of mold and rust lingered everywhere. But beneath those odors was something even worse. Something that instantly sent a chill down my spine. It was the sickening smell of decay, a stench that belonged to some gruesome creature.
“She’s here.” The driver’s cold voice came from nearby as he handed me over to someone else.
“Ruby! Ruby, where are you?” I shouted desperately through the cloth covering my face. “Mommy’s here!”
My voice echoed through the vast empty space. But there was no answer.
Then I heard the sharp, deliberate clicks of high heels. The sound drew closer with every step.
The next moment, a rush of air cut through the darkness. Something heavy swung toward me with brutal force.

With a loud thud, a stick slammed into my kneecap.
Lianne’s POV
“Ah!”
Agonizing pain ripped through my body. It wasn’t the kind of pain a normal wooden rod could inflict. This pain was far worse. It seemed to burn straight through my soul.
The weapon was made of silver, specially designed to harm werewolves.
I screamed as my legs buckled beneath me, and I crashed onto the cold concrete floor.
Cold sweat instantly soaked my back, and the intense pain shooting through my knees nearly made me pass out.
Suddenly, a hand clad in lace gloves ripped the black hood from my head.
The sudden light stung my eyes, making me squint. When I finally managed to focus, I saw a woman standing before me.
She wore an extravagant red gown. Her makeup was flawless, but her eyes gleamed with a disturbing mix of cruelty and delight.
“It’s been a while, Lianne.” She looked down at me with undisguised contempt, a silver cane held firmly in her hand. A vicious smile spread across her lips. “At last… I found you.”
The moment I recognized her, my heart dropped.
It was none other than Ivy.
I had anticipated this encounter, but seeing her in person still sent a shiver through me.
There was no one else in the world who hated me with such obsessive, terrifying intensity.
The pain in my knee was unbearable. It felt like countless burning needles were drilling deep into my bones.
Silver was deadly to werewolves.
The strike from that silver cane had done more than wound me physically. It had severely damaged the natural healing power that my werewolf bloodline possessed.
The color drained from my face as large drops of cold sweat rolled down my forehead and dropped onto the cold concrete beneath me.
Inside me, my wolf was howling in rage, struggling to break free. It wanted to shift, to lunge at the woman in front of me and rip her apart.
Noticing the tension in my body, Ivy let out a chilling laugh. She raised the silver cane once more and brought it down hard across my back.
“Ahhh!” I shrieked as the impact knocked me flat onto the floor.
The burning pain was unbearable, as if flames were consuming my soul.
