Chapter 456:
“You still refuse to give up?” Rola nearly lost control when she heard me. She lunged forward again, her voice breaking with fury. “His life is hanging between life and death because of you, and now you still want to stay beside him? Do you want to watch him take his last breath before you’ll finally be satisfied?”
I paid no attention to the words thrown at me.
Compared to the sharp agony spreading through my knee from the silver poison, those words were nothing.
My eyes stayed fixed on the altar in the distance. Witches in black robes encircled it.
Their chanting continued. The mysterious incantations sounded eerie, but to me, they represented hope.
As long as they kept chanting, it meant Ethan still had a chance.
I had to remain here.
Deep inside, I knew that if Ethan managed to escape death, the first person he would want to see when he opened his eyes would be me.
Ethan had always been proud and overbearing. He still hadn’t heard me say that I forgave him. He hadn’t seen Ruby safe and unharmed. How could he possibly accept dying?
“You’re really stubborn.” Evelyn finally lost her patience when she realized I wouldn’t back down.

She turned and called toward the warriors concealed in the shadows. “Take her away! Throw her outside the Darkroot Forest and don’t let her back in without my permission!”
The moment she gave the order, two tall warriors stepped forward.
They seized me from both sides at once and lifted me effortlessly, as though I weighed nothing.
“Let me go… please let me go!” I struggled desperately, but every movement reopened my wounds and sent unbearable pain through my body.
It felt as though my flesh was being ripped apart.
“Please… let me stay. I promise I won’t make a sound. I’ll only watch from a distance…” I begged.
Blood mingled with tears as they streamed down my face, blurring my vision. But the warriors ignored every plea. Following their orders, they dragged me through thorn-covered bushes and past the icy guard posts.
In the end, they threw me beyond the border of the Darkroot Forest with no mercy.
I hit the muddy ground hard. The icy wind sliced across my exposed skin like blades.
“Stay away and don’t come back,” one of the warriors said coldly, before both men disappeared into the mist-covered forest.
I lay on the ground, the pain so bad I couldn’t even lift a finger.
The surrounding land was empty and silent. Far away, the pack’s elite guards stood in multiple defensive lines.
I had been completely cast out. But I didn’t cry.
Trembling, I pushed myself up slightly and continued staring toward the depths of the Darkroot Forest.
No matter how much the Thorn Pack hated me or blamed me, I wouldn’t leave.
I would remain here and wait for Ethan. I would wait until I heard that he was safe.
I felt like discarded trash, abandoned in the freezing, wet dirt.
Everywhere was still. Only the distant howls of wolves occasionally echoed through the heavy fog, making the loneliness feel even more overwhelming.
A bitter smile tugged at my lips, but the motion pulled at the wounds on my face and made me gasp in pain.
