Chapter 468:
I pushed my wheelchair forward over the gravel path, each movement unsteady.
The wind here was merciless, slipping through my clothes and stabbing into my numb leg.
I was still wondering how to get in when the heavy iron gates suddenly groaned open. A black SUV marked with medical insignia rolled out.
I had no idea where my bravery came from. Perhaps it was the despair that had been piling up inside me, finally exploding into utter recklessness.
I shoved the wheels of my chair with every ounce of strength I had, hurling myself directly into the vehicle’s path just as it sped forward.
Brakes screamed through the valley.
The vehicle stopped inches from my wheelchair.
A doctor in a white coat stepped out, his face pale with shock. His expression quickly hardened into irritation and disbelief. “Are you insane? This is private property. Do you want to die?” he snapped.
“Please…” I lifted my head, my face drained of color, my lips tinged blue from the cold. My voice barely carried. “Take me inside… I need to see Ethan. Your Alpha.”
The doctor hesitated briefly, then let out a chilling laugh, his eyes dripping with contempt. “You want to see our Alpha? Just who do you think you are? No one gets in here without the elders’ authorization. Move, before the guards do it for you.”
He turned to leave. But I grabbed his coat with what little strength I had left.

“I’m Lianne, his mate,” I choked out. “I’m the mother of his children. He was injured saving me. I just need to know if he’s alive, please…”
The doctor looked down at me as if I were some kind of joke, pathetic, ridiculous.
“You?” he said coldly. “His mate?” A dismissive scoff followed. “I’ve never even heard your name.”
The words landed like a slap.
For a moment, I couldn’t breathe.
Of course. In the eyes of the Thorn Pack’s self-important elders, I was just a disgrace, a corrupting influence who had seduced their Alpha.
My chest constricted with a pain so piercing I could barely draw a breath.
I let go of his coat and hung my head, my voice fading to barely a whisper. “I won’t… I won’t go inside.”
Tears slipped down my cheeks despite my effort to hold them back. “But please… just tell me one thing. Is he alive? If he’s safe, I’ll leave immediately.”
The doctor hesitated. For a brief moment, something like pity flickered across his face.
At last, he looked around to confirm no one was nearby, then leaned in and murmured quietly, “Our Alpha survived. The old magic from the witches managed to protect his heart. He’s no longer in critical danger. That’s all I can tell you. Now leave.”
Without waiting for a response, he got back into the SUV and drove off.
Ethan was alive.
The words settled into me like light breaking through deep water.
