Chapter 471:
Looking down at me, he continued in a measured, persuasive tone. “Lianne, think about what’s best for them. If they stay with you, they’ll spend their lives struggling as ordinary people, fighting for every opportunity from the very bottom. No matter how gifted they are, without the backing of the family, their potential will always be limited. But if they return to the Thorn Pack, they’ll be raised as future Alpha heirs. And I give you my word: if you sign the waiver, I’ll personally ensure their safety and provide them with a future most people could never dream of.”
Lianne’s POV:
I looked at Adrian’s face, wearing that familiar expression of righteous certainty, as though everything he said was for my own benefit, but all I felt was a crushing sense of hopelessness.
I knew people like him too well.
Beneath the surface, Adrian was every bit as calculating and cold as the rest of the Voss family.
Maybe he coveted power for himself. Maybe he saw Silas as a useful piece to move across the board one day. Either way, I didn’t trust his intentions.

“I never wanted to depend on Ethan, and I’ve never dreamed of using my children to chase power or status.” My voice trembled violently beneath the biting wind. “I could take them somewhere far away. We could change our names. I’d never even tell them who their father is, as long as I can keep them with me…”
“Do you honestly think that’s realistic?” Adrian interrupted me harshly, his eyes narrowing. “Once Ethan wakes up, do you honestly think he’d let his own children be raised somewhere he can’t get to them? All you’re doing is delaying a custody battle that will eventually become far uglier.”
His words struck like a hammer, shattering the fragile hope I’d been desperately clinging to.
I knew he was right. Ethan was an Alpha. The same stubborn, reckless man who would drag himself back from death’s door just to keep me by his side.
I sat frozen in the wheelchair. My entire body trembled from the cold, yet a burning ache spread through my chest as though something was trying to tear its way out.
My gaze dropped to my left leg, swathed in bloodstained bandages where dark crimson had already begun bleeding through the layers. Then I thought of Ruby and Silas, waiting for me thousands of miles away.
“Can I… make a phone call?” I looked up at Adrian, and the desperation in my eyes must have been impossible to miss.
After a brief hesitation, he stepped aside and nodded.
My hands shook as I dialed the number. The moment I heard my children’s innocent voices, the tears I had been holding back finally spilled over.
I didn’t tell them much. I simply reminded them to behave and wait for me to come home. By the time the call ended, it felt as though someone had ripped my heart cleanly in two.
“Fine.” I closed my eyes while tears continued sliding down my cheeks. My voice was barely above a whisper. “I agree. The Thorn Pack can have custody of the children. But under one condition.”
One of Adrian’s brows lifted slightly. “What condition?”
“Let me stay here.” My fingers dug so hard into the wheelchair’s armrests that my palms stung. “Let me remain by Ethan’s side for one month. Whether he wakes up during that time or not, I’ll leave afterward without resistance. I won’t cause any trouble.”
