Chapter 472:
A flicker of hesitation crossed Adrian’s face. His brow furrowed. “And if he wakes up and refuses to let you leave?” he asked cautiously. “You know as well as I do that nobody can easily oppose Ethan’s decisions.”
“I’ll convince him to release me.” A bitter smile pulled at the corners of my mouth. My eyes were empty yet resolute. “I’ll sign any contract you ask for. If I ever go back on my word, the Thorn Pack can do whatever it wants with me. Against a family as powerful as yours, what chance does a crippled woman like me really have?”
For the first time, something shifted in Adrian’s gaze.
Perhaps he finally saw that I had never cared about wealth, status, or power.
I was simply a woman who couldn’t let go of the man who had thrown himself in front of a blade for her.
“You’re in terrible condition.” Adrian sighed, his voice losing some of its edge. “That infection in your leg is severe. If it’s left untreated, the damage could become permanent. I’ll arrange for the medical team here to—”
“No.” I shook my head gently and cut him off.
My injuries no longer mattered. Whether I lost my leg no longer mattered.
After everything it had taken to reach this place, there was only one thing left in my heart: the man behind those gates, lying in bed.
“Take me to Ethan.” I lifted my head and met Adrian’s eyes without wavering.

For a long moment, he said nothing. Then he released a quiet sigh.
Turning toward the guards, he gave a brief signal. The massive iron gates slowly swung open before me.
As I passed through the thick soundproof door, it felt as though the world had suddenly fallen silent.
The sharp smell of disinfectant hit me immediately.
Inside, only the steady, mechanical beeping of medical equipment broke the stillness.
With trembling fingers, I pushed my wheelchair closer to the bed.
The man lying beneath the pristine white sheets looked nothing like the Ethan I knew. Gone was the terrifying authority that made others instinctively bow their heads.
His face was deathly pale, stripped of every trace of color. His lips, once full of life, were cracked from fever and dehydration.
He rested there in an unsettling stillness, so fragile he seemed as if he could shatter at any second, with no trace left of the merciless Alpha who had once governed the pack with an iron grip.
Medical tubes ran into his scarred, powerful body while an infusion pump steadily delivered medicine into his veins.
My eyes drifted to his exposed shoulder. The flesh there was still blackened and damaged where the silver had eaten into him. Every wound felt like a knife twisting inside my chest.
A suffocating ache spread through me, sour and relentless.
The sight of a wounded Ethan broke my heart.
Slowly, I lifted a trembling hand. My fingertips hovered inches above his face. I wanted nothing more than to smooth away the crease still etched between his brows, the trace of pain that remained even in unconsciousness.
“Please don’t touch him, miss.”
A cool hand gently settled over my wrist.
