Chapter 473:
Startled, I jerked back as though caught doing something forbidden and immediately withdrew my hand. I didn’t even dare look up at the young female healer.
“I’m sorry… I only…” My voice came out rough, heavy with the terror that even the smallest misstep could hurt Ethan further.
The healer didn’t scold me. Dressed in sterile white, she carried herself with a calmness that seemed far older than her years.
She moved to Ethan’s bedside and began changing the dressing on his chest with practiced precision.
The moment she peeled away the bloodstained gauze, revealing dark red stains mixed with yellow discharge, my entire body went rigid. For a second, I forgot how to breathe.
The skin surrounding the wound had turned an ominous bluish-purple, the unmistakable evidence of silver poisoning ravaging a werewolf’s body.

To protect Ruby and me, Ethan had endured all of this.
“Don’t worry. The worst has already passed.” The healer spoke in a soft murmur as she worked, using gentle, practiced motions to clean the wound. Her voice was calm and soothing, and somehow it eased the ache pressing against my chest, if only a little.
I stared at her blankly. “He’s… really going to survive?”
“Yes.” She looked up and offered me a reassuring smile. “His family found the oldest witch from the Nersard Isles. It took a forbidden ritual to save his life.” She adjusted the fresh bandages before continuing, “His body is simply exhausted now. It’s protecting itself by keeping him in a deep healing sleep. He’s no longer in danger.”
The moment I heard her explanation, my heart, which had been dangling by a fragile thread all along, finally settled back into place.
Lianne’s POV:
“Thank you…” My voice caught in my throat, and tears welled up in my eyes.
The healer paused what she was doing and looked at me with a complicated expression. Her voice was soft but carried a weight that made my heart tremble. “Actually, the person you should thank is the Alpha himself. While the head witch was performing the healing spell, he endured pain so intense it felt as though his soul was being ripped apart. No ordinary person could have survived such suffering. But even in that state, barely conscious and consumed by agony, he kept repeating one name.”
My heart skipped a beat, and I held my breath as I stared at her.
“He kept calling for Lianne.” She let out a sigh, her expression turning emotional. “That determination pulled him back from the brink of death. Even in his dreams, he seemed terrified of losing you.”
Warm tears rolled down my cheeks and fell onto the backs of my hands, resting in my lap.
Back then, I had lied to him on purpose. I had been cruel because I wanted him to give up on me. I told him I had fallen in love with someone else and that I had never truly loved him.
I believed cutting off our complicated relationship would be the best thing for him.
But I was wrong.
Ethan had always been stubborn, and deep inside, he had never stopped loving me.
