Chapter 488:
I spun around immediately, covering my ears as my eyes turned red. “Stop talking! I don’t want to hear any of it!” I shouted. “Sleep with whoever you want! It has nothing to do with me!”
I hated him for it. I hated that he’d claimed to love me, only to turn around and share that intimacy with someone else.
Just as I was about to escape the suffocating atmosphere of the hospital room, a heavy sigh sounded behind me.
“Lianne, face me.” His deep, resonant voice filled the space between us. He hesitated for a moment before continuing, “What if the woman you’ve been upset about all this time… was never anyone but yourself?”
I stood motionless, my thoughts wiped clean, as though I’d been struck by lightning.
Slowly and awkwardly, I turned my head, my eyes locking onto his, which were overflowing with tender love.
“A few months back, when Power Group fell apart in a single night, did you truly believe it was mere coincidence?” he murmured, uncovering facts I’d never thought to doubt. “And that chauffeur you ran into in Brinewick… did you really think that was just chance?”
I sucked in a sharp breath. Fragments of memories long buried deep in my mind suddenly began surfacing one by one, fitting together like pieces of a forgotten puzzle.
“That night, someone slipped something into your drink. You were completely out of it.” Ethan’s voice turned rough, a trace of lingering fear flashing through his eyes. “I got there just in time to get you away from them. You were burning with fever, completely delirious. You threw yourself into my arms, crying and calling me a bastard. Then…” He paused. “You sank your teeth into my shoulder over and over again and refused to let go no matter what.”

So the bite marks that had filled me with jealousy and heartache all this time were actually wounds I had left on him while I was drunk and out of my mind.
In that instant, every suspicion, every grievance, and every moment of self-inflicted misery became nothing more than a ridiculous misunderstanding.
“Stop talking…” I was so mortified I wanted to vanish on the spot, my cheeks burning hot enough to set fire to the air around me. I wished the ground would split open and swallow me whole.
But Ethan clearly wasn’t planning on sparing me.
He leaned close to my ear, his warm breath grazing my neck and sending a tremor down my spine. “You even said my abs were the best you’d ever touched, and that you’d never leave a perfect Alpha like me for the rest of your life… Lianne, you’ve never complimented me that much while sober.”
“Enough! Just shut up!” I shoved at him frantically, embarrassment washing over every inch of me.
This was beyond embarrassing. I couldn’t even bring myself to look at him.
Grabbing the first excuse that came to mind, I stammered, “I… I’m tired. I’m going to rest in the next room.”
I whirled my wheelchair around, frantic to get away. Yet Ethan’s good hand darted out and grabbed my wrist with unexpected force, refusing to release me. “Lianne, don’t go.”
