Chapter 503:
It wasn’t her fault. Other than Lianne, I couldn’t tolerate the touch of any woman, not even the slightest unnecessary closeness.
That instinctive rejection was etched into my very bones. Only Lianne could step into my space without triggering it.
Pushing open the hospital room door, I stepped back inside. The room was silent.
Lianne was still asleep. Her small frame lay tucked into a tight curl under the covers, snug within the vast bed like a tiny kitten searching for comfort and safety.

At the sight of her, my heart, which had always been hard and unyielding, softened instantly. A faint smile tugged at my lips.
I had to admit that I’d thoroughly worn her out over the past few days.
Even carrying life-threatening injuries, the moment she climbed into my arms, her eyes shimmering with equal parts restraint and longing, every ounce of reason I possessed as an Alpha had been swept away by instinct.
I had taken her with a ravenous need, frantic to close the distance of all those lost years in just one night.
Pulling a chair over, I settled beside her bed and quietly watched her sleeping face, ignoring the dull throb in my chest.
I reached out and gently brushed aside a strand of soft hair that had fallen across her cheek, my fingertips slowly tracing the delicate contours of her features.
Only when my fingers touched her warm skin, and I felt the steady rhythm of her breathing, did the tightness in my chest finally loosen.
The Moon Goddess truly had shown me mercy. She gave me Lianne, and Lianne gave me two beautiful children.
That blessing alone was enough to make every hardship of the past worthwhile.
A soft knock at the door suddenly pulled me from my thoughts.
I got up and opened the door to find Jeremy standing there.
I gestured for him to keep his voice down and pointed toward the bed where Lianne still slept peacefully, before leading him into the sitting area outside the hospital suite.
The second Jeremy dropped onto the sofa, his eyes immediately drifted toward the bedroom. A knowing grin spread across his face. “Damn, Ethan, you’re looking pretty lively,” he whispered teasingly. “Looks like your recovery went very well. But seriously, couldn’t you have shown a little mercy? You’ve worn Lianne out so badly she’s still asleep.”
I shot him a frosty look but didn’t bother denying it. Instead, I replied with unmistakable satisfaction in my voice, “She’s my fated mate. Whatever happens between us is perfectly natural.”
Jeremy immediately rolled his eyes. “Yeah, yeah. Message received. You’re happily mated now. No need to keep showing off.”
“What happened with Tracy?” I asked, steering the conversation elsewhere as my gaze sharpened.
The moment her name came up, Jeremy’s smug expression faltered.
He immediately lifted both hands in surrender. “I didn’t bully her. She was just being too noisy, so I teased her a little. How was I supposed to know she’d start crying?”
