Chapter 508:
“I know.” I inhaled deeply and quickly lifted my head, afraid he might misunderstand. “I’m really not jealous, Ethan. I just think she’s very professional.”
He stared at me for a long moment. The ease in his expression disappeared, replaced by a slight frown. His face darkened, clearly unhappy with my answer.
“You’re incredibly generous.” His voice carried a strange trace of bitterness.
I released a quiet sigh and tried to explain. “You should have normal relationships with other people. You’re responsible for leading the entire pack. I can’t irrationally demand that you stay away from every woman. That would be completely unreasonable.”
“But I would.” His voice suddenly turned low and resolute, filled with a sincerity that bordered on obsession.
I stared at him in shock, completely speechless.

His eyes locked onto mine, and the fierce possessiveness within them was impossible to miss. “Lianne, I won’t let either of them get away with it. Just thinking about them touching you or looking at you, that alone makes me want to tear them apart.”
His straightforward, almost boyish jealousy made me laugh despite myself, though a bittersweet ache tugged at my heart.
“Then why don’t you just keep me locked away?” I joked with a faint smile. “Hide me somewhere only you can see. Then you wouldn’t have to worry about anyone else.”
What was meant as a harmless tease instantly took a different turn. Ethan’s expression turned solemn in an instant.
He didn’t laugh. Instead, he answered with complete seriousness, “You’re right, Lianne. I’ve thought about that. More times than I can count.”
His confession made my heart stumble.
A quiet sigh escaped him as he lifted a hand and gently brushed my cheek. His touch was warm and careful, while his eyes held a love so deep and restrained it almost hurt to witness.
“I’ve imagined hiding you somewhere deep in a remote forest, a place only I could reach, where you’d depend on me and no one else for the rest of your life.” His voice quivered slightly as he continued, “Lianne, I’ve been restraining myself all this time because I was scared, scared that if I let that side of me show, I’d frighten you. And you’d leave me again, just like you did three years ago.”
I stood motionless, my breath trapped in my chest.
So he had known from the very beginning. He knew about my fears, my insecurities, and the part of me that was always tempted to run. He had seen everything. That was why he had concealed the sharper parts of himself, offering me only patience and tenderness, treating me with such care, as though I might shatter at any moment.
As I looked into those eyes overflowing with a love so deep it seemed almost self-sacrificing, it felt as though something heavy had slammed into my chest. The pain was so overwhelming I could barely draw breath.
Lianne’s POV:
Ever since Ethan had been admitted to the hospital, the complicated affairs of the Thorn Pack had temporarily fallen into Noah’s hands, giving Ethan a rare chance to slow down and rest.
