Chapter 512:
Slowly, Ethan raised his head. His voice was low and terrifying. “Jeremy.” A dangerous warning lingered in every syllable. “What exactly did you just say?”
Jeremy nearly dropped the lobster claw. His face immediately turned pale. “N-No! That’s not what I meant!” He waved his hands frantically. “I would never have designs on your mate! What I meant was… uh… I’d like Silas to be my little brother!”
“Get out.” Ethan’s response was immediate and merciless. “He’s my son, not your plaything.”
Jeremy instantly deflated. Leaning back in his chair, he muttered unhappily, “You’re no fun.” Then he shrugged. “Anyway, I don’t plan on getting married or having children anytime soon. No way am I letting a kid tie me down.”
Tracy, who had been quietly eating all this time, finally looked up. “With a face like yours, I’m sure there are plenty of she-wolves willing to have your children.” She paused. Her tone was calm as she delivered a perfectly aimed jab. “But whoever ends up doing it would be incredibly unfortunate.”
Jeremy nearly choked. The two immediately slipped into their familiar pattern of bickering.
Jeremy acted as though he couldn’t care less about Tracy’s opinion. Yet every few seconds, his gaze drifted back toward her.
Tracy remained completely unbothered. She continued eating with an indifferent expression, occasionally looking at him with barely concealed disdain. The more indifferent she became, the more frustrated Jeremy looked.
His face twisted into a look of such comical fury that I almost laughed out loud. Next to Ethan, I watched the pair silently, Jeremy so upset, and Tracy so effortlessly rattling him. A nagging suspicion began to dawn on me.
“Eat your food, Jeremy.” Ethan’s cold voice abruptly cut through Jeremy’s latest attempt at a comeback.

The effect was immediate. Jeremy, who had been bouncing around like a hyperactive child moments earlier, instantly fell silent and obediently focused on his meal.
A strange atmosphere lingered around the table. There was tension, amusement, and something else entirely, an odd undercurrent that made the whole scene feel unexpectedly lively.
Ethan’s POV:
Once dinner was over, Lianne took Tracy downstairs for a stroll to aid their digestion.
As I watched them disappear through the door, I finally let the tension leave my body and sank back against the pillows.
Jeremy and I were the only ones left in the ward.
Turning my head, I fixed him with a cool stare as he sprawled lazily across the sofa.
“Alright, talk. What’s really going on?” I asked.
Jeremy stiffened, dragging a hand through his tousled blond hair in irritation. “What are you talking about? I just came here for a free meal.”
“You’ve never spent three straight minutes staring at a woman’s back before,” I said flatly, cutting through his excuse. “And why are you constantly bickering with Tracy? That’s not like you.”
Lately, though, he had been behaving like an inexperienced teenager with his first crush.
