Chapter 513

Chapter 513:
“She’s… different,” he admitted at last, frustration evident in his voice. “You know what it’s usually like, Ethan. Most of the women around me only care about my position or my money. They’re nice, but so dull. Tracy is different…” He let out a slow breath. “She’s more like a rose with thorns. Beautiful, but impossible to handle. Every time I say something, she immediately fires back. She’s never once given in to me. And whenever she looks at me, all I see is annoyance.”
His gaze drifted away, unfocused. “The weird part is that when she’s not around, everything feels… empty. I can’t seem to get interested in anything.”
Studying his miserable expression, I let out a short, cold chuckle. “And you thought she’d gone home, immediately booked a flight to chase after her, then found out she was still at the hospital. And instead of admitting why you came, you hid behind the excuse of dinner?”
Jeremy’s face instantly turned crimson. “I-I was just in the area!” he protested. “Just passing through!”
Then he leaned closer, his usual carefree attitude gone. For once, he looked genuinely serious.
Lowering his voice, he asked, “Tell me honestly… when you can’t stop thinking about someone when they’re gone, but the moment they’re in front of you, you keep provoking them just to get a reaction… does that mean you like them?”
I stared at him, offering no response.
“Maybe it’s just temporary curiosity,” Jeremy muttered, sinking back into the sofa. “It’s not like I’ve ever met anyone like her before. Once the novelty wears off, I’ll probably lose interest and move on.”

Ethan’s POV:
The instant Jeremy finished speaking, my expression darkened.
“Jeremy,” I said, my voice carrying a sharp warning, “if you’re only playing around, then stay away from Tracy. She’s Lianne’s closest friend. If you hurt her and leave her heartbroken, Lianne will suffer too. And I won’t stand by while anyone makes my mate cry.”
Jeremy leaned back slightly, muttering under his breath, “Wow. Guess your mate really does come before your friends.”
“This isn’t about choosing sides,” I replied evenly. “It’s about knowing where I draw the line.”
Holding his gaze, I continued, “You can do whatever you want with your own love life. That’s none of my business. But the people Lianne cares about are different. They’re not for you to toy with casually.”
I paused before adding deliberately, “Unless Tracy wants to be with you, and you’re willing to form a mate bond with her. Tell me honestly, are you prepared to swear before the Moon Goddess that you’ll remain loyal to her for the rest of your life? That you’ll never betray her?”
His entire body went still.
Among werewolves, a mate bond wasn’t something taken lightly. It was a sacred vow that tied two souls together forever.
For wolves of our status, such a promise was irreversible.
“But Tracy isn’t my fated mate.”
Jeremy hesitated before shaking his head. “You know me, Ethan. I’ve never wanted a life tied down by obligations. Giving up the possibility of finding my fated mate for Tracy… making a lifelong vow of loyalty…” He exhaled heavily. “That’s asking too much. I can’t do it.”
His response was exactly what I had expected.
“Then stay out of her life.” I looked away, my voice turning cold. “She’s a good woman. She deserves someone who will choose her completely, not someone who’s not ready to settle down.”
