Chapter 524:
After ending the call, I put my phone away and turned around. The moment I did, I found Ethan watching me with an unreadable expression.
“Done talking?” he asked, one brow lifting slightly. “You looked comfortable talking to him.”
With a sigh, I walked over. Seeing the jealousy written so plainly across his face, I couldn’t resist teasing him. “Are you jealous?”
Ethan met my gaze directly, making no effort to deny it. “Yes, Lianne. I am. Even though he helped you, I still wish I could erase him from your life completely.”
His blunt, childish possessiveness caught me off guard, and I couldn’t help laughing. At the same time, I felt a warm, fuzzy feeling in my heart.
“All right, stop sulking.” I shook my head with amusement. “I’m going to get some water and help clean you up.”
I had barely turned toward the bathroom when I felt him suddenly grab the hem of my shirt.
“I need a bath,” he said firmly.
“No.” I rejected the idea immediately. “Melisa said your wound still hasn’t healed completely. What if it gets infected?”

“I’ll make sure the wound stays dry.” Ethan rose to his feet, his tall figure instantly making the room feel smaller. “It’s been days since I’ve had a real bath. That’s driving me crazy. Please help me.”
He slid an arm around my waist and gently pulled me closer. “Stay with me. If you help wash me, I can avoid getting water on the injury.”
My ears flushed and my heartbeat quickened.
I knew this man far too well. Nothing he said in moments like this could be trusted. He would claim he only wanted a kiss, a bath, or one quiet moment together, but somehow those innocent requests always became something more. In the end, I was always the one left breathless and drained.
But when I looked into his eyes and saw the exhaustion and longing there, my resolve began to crumble.
“Fine.” My cheeks flushed as I gave in. “But we’re only taking a bath. Nothing else.”
A sly grin spread across his face. “Whatever you say.”
A thin layer of steam soon filled the bathroom, making the space feel intimate.
I carefully cleaned the bathtub, filled it with water, and crouched down to check the temperature. Before I could stand up again, I felt the warmth of Ethan’s chest against my back.
He wrapped his arms around me from behind and placed his chin lightly on my shoulder. His hands settled at my waist, clearly showing no intention of keeping a respectable distance.
“Help me take these off,” he whispered in my ear.
The deep rumble of his voice sent a tremor through me. Pressing my lips together, I turned and began undoing the buttons of his hospital shirt.
As the fabric fell away, his strong, sculpted body came into view.
But the instant I saw the vicious wound stretched across his chest, its edges still red and marked with faint traces of blood, every trace of embarrassment I felt disappeared.
He had gotten that wound protecting me.
