Chapter 531:
For a long time, Ethan said nothing. The silence stretched so long I began to think he might push me away.
Finally, he let out a slow, weary sigh and pressed my head firmly against his chest.
“Fine. One month.” His fingers tightened around mine. “Lianne, don’t let me down when the time comes. If you lie to me again… I don’t know how I’ll react.”
I buried my face in his chest and replied softly, “Okay.”
Lianne’s POV:
The following morning, I woke up to the steady rhythm of Ethan’s heartbeat.
Even while asleep, he still had an arm draped around my waist, as though holding me close had become second nature. Whenever I slept beside him, I always slept more soundly.
I raised my head slightly and pressed a soft kiss to his lips.
He stirred awake almost immediately. A gentle smile appeared on his face as he returned the kiss. “Good morning, sweetheart.”

I got out of bed about thirty minutes earlier than usual, quickly freshened up, and changed into a light gray knitted dress.
Just as I finished dressing, the hospital room door opened softly, and Melisa entered, carrying her medical kit.
It was obvious she had put extra effort into her appearance today.
Under her white doctor’s coat was an elegant white silk dress. Tiny pearls lined the neckline, making her skin seem even brighter. She looked refined, graceful, and pure, as if untouched by life’s troubles.
“Good morning, Lianne,” she said with a smile. Then she gestured for me to assist her. “I need your help while I change his dressing today. The wound is healing well, so it might start itching. Make sure he stays still.”
I placed my hands on Ethan’s shoulders while Melisa skillfully removed the bandages.
“You look especially beautiful today,” I told her honestly.
Melisa paused for a moment, then shrugged helplessly. “My family arranged a blind date for me. The man is the heir to another prominent family and recently returned from Northern Obrinope. I’m not interested in the slightest, but if I don’t go, my father will never stop nagging me.”
“If your family approves of him, he must be quite remarkable,” I said with a smile. “I hope you find someone who genuinely makes your heart race.”
“Thank you for saying that.” She gave a faint smile.
When she was done changing the dressing, she reminded us of a few precautions before hurrying out of the room.
I turned toward Ethan and found him leaning against the headboard, scrolling through contracts on his tablet. Unable to help myself, I commented, “Melisa really has a quiet kind of charm. She’s naturally elegant and attractive.”
Ethan continued casually swiping through the documents. Without lifting his eyes from the screen, he replied flatly, “Really? I never noticed.”
“She was standing right beside you earlier, looking so stunning. How could you possibly not notice?” I asked with a teasing smile.
Only then did Ethan set down his tablet and look up at me.
