Chapter 548:
That final remark revealed the possessiveness he tried so hard to hide.
“Please don’t pressure him. I don’t want another conflict,” I murmured.
“Fine. I’ll leave him alone,” Ethan answered immediately.
Eventually, the vehicle rolled to a stop outside a villa I knew all too well.
I stared at the familiar building, a place that carried nearly every important memory of my life, and an indescribable ache twisted inside me.
Then Ethan stepped behind me and drew me into his chest.
His solid frame enclosed me completely while his jaw rested lightly near my shoulder. His warm breath brushed my neck, carrying a strange tenderness.

“Lianne, we’re back,” he whispered softly, as if soothing a frightened child.
I relaxed against him despite myself, listening to the steady thud of his heartbeat as tears burned painfully behind my eyes.
The moment I crossed the doorway and felt the soft carpet beneath my shoes, a dizzy sensation overtook me.
“We’re home… again,” I muttered faintly.
I remembered arriving here for the first time, wondering what kind of woman Ethan would one day cherish. Only now did I realize the person I had envied had always been me.
Unfortunately, understanding that truth now felt unbearably late.
“Mommy! Look over here!” Ruby’s cheerful shriek shattered the sadness clouding my thoughts.
The instant I stepped into the living room, I froze.
The elegant, spotless space I remembered had vanished completely.
Building blocks covered the floor in every direction. A fluffy pink rabbit sprawled across the costly couch. Tiny racing cars zoomed recklessly beneath an expensive painting.
I stopped breathing for a second.
Everyone in the Thorn Pack knew Ethan’s standards for cleanliness bordered on obsessive.
Even the smallest bit of disorder was usually enough to darken his mood instantly.
“Ruby! Silas! Clean this up immediately!” I exclaimed, crouching down in panic to gather the scattered toys before Ethan exploded.
Before I could touch anything, however, Ethan caught my wrist gently.
“It’s fine,” he said, his deep voice carrying unmistakable fondness, something I had rarely ever heard from him before.
Startled, I lifted my eyes toward him.
There was no irritation in his expression, no displeasure at all. Only warmth softened the sharpness of his features.
“But everything’s a disaster… doesn’t this bother you?” I asked quietly.
“If our children live here, the house is supposed to look lived in.”
A faint smile touched his lips as his thumb brushed lightly across my wrist.
At that moment, I finally realized: this feared Alpha had become completely soft in the presence of his children.
Ethan was the sort of father who would indulge them endlessly.
As I looked around further, I noticed even more changes.
An empty section of the house had been converted into a miniature playroom, complete with a handcrafted merry-go-round glowing beneath soft lights.
“Ethan, this looks more like a theme park than a home,” I said helplessly, pointing toward it.
“There’s more than enough room, and it wasn’t expensive,” he replied casually.
