Chapter 558:
Before I could move far, Ethan reached out and pulled me into his arms. Lowering his head, he pressed a kiss against my hair and asked in a husky voice, “You’re awake. Hungry?”
The warmth radiating from his chest made my face heat up all over again. Although I wasn’t particularly hungry, I nodded anyway. “A little. Something light would be fine. And please put on a shirt.”
“Tch. And there you are, being all lovey-dovey again.” Silas’s voice drifted over from nearby. As he brushed grass from his pants, his face was filled with disapproval. “I’m leaving.”
With that, he grabbed Ruby’s hand and headed back toward the house.
Ethan watched their retreating figures and shook his head with a helpless smile before instructing the chef to prepare dinner, specifically reminding them to include blueberry pudding for the children.
After dinner, Ethan held my hand and slowly traced circles over my knuckles with his thumb.

“Let’s visit St. Sonia Cathedral tomorrow morning,” he suggested. “There are lots of doves there. Ruby will love it.”
“Wonderful! Let’s go!” Ruby cheered excitedly. Unfortunately, her enthusiasm was immediately met with a bucket of cold water.
“I’m not going,” Silas declared flatly.
Sitting on the sofa with his customized laptop resting on his lap, Silas’s fingers moved swiftly across the keyboard. “I need to work on a network encryption program. The signal stations here are too outdated, and I don’t trust them. Besides…”
Silas lifted his eyes toward us, his tone so straightforward that it made me blush. “I don’t want to be a third wheel. Ruby, stay here with me. I’ll teach you some basic coding.”
Ruby hesitated for three whole seconds before ultimately choosing her brother over the doves.
I was completely stunned. How could a child so young use the term “third wheel” with such ease? Worried, I turned to Ethan and asked, “Ethan, isn’t Silas spending too much time online? He’s only four years old, and I’m concerned…”
Ethan gave my hand a reassuring squeeze, his voice low and soothing. “Don’t worry. I’ve already configured and monitored every device he uses. Any harmful, violent, or inappropriate content is automatically filtered out. He’s simply… smarter and more mature than most children.”
The calm certainty in Ethan’s eyes, along with the obvious care behind his arrangements, eased some of my worries.
Resting against his shoulder, I watched the warm, peaceful scene inside the house, yet a quiet ache slowly spread through my chest.
He had prepared everything so thoroughly that it almost felt unreal. Like a beautiful dream that could shatter at any moment.
For a moment, it almost made me forget the unanswered mystery surrounding my father’s death.
“Ethan,” I called softly, “if one day I discover you’ve been lying to me…”
His grip around my hand tightened instantly, the pressure making my palm ache.
Ethan didn’t allow me to finish. Instead, he silenced me with a kiss, his lips firm and demanding, carrying a desperation that bordered on obsession.
“There are no ifs, Lianne,” he murmured firmly.
Lianne’s POV
The following day, Ethan and I readied ourselves and stepped outside. Brilliant sunshine greeted us.
