Chapter 566:
“I’ll come with you.” Jeremy stood immediately and took her hand without hesitation, his eyes unwavering. “No one is separating us. Even if he wants to challenge me to a duel, I’ll face him.”
Watching them leave together, completely unafraid of whatever lay ahead, stirred a faint sense of envy deep inside me.
Noticing my distraction, Ethan leaned over and pressed a gentle kiss to my forehead.
“What’s on your mind?” he asked gently.
“Your injuries.” I snapped back to reality, suddenly remembering that his body was still recovering. “Once this situation is settled, we should go home. You need proper rest…”
Ethan slowly shook his head.
Keeping my hand firmly in his, he looked at me with a seriousness and tenderness I had rarely seen before.
“There’s still one thing I need to do,” he said quietly. “Tomorrow, I’ll accompany you to visit your father’s grave.”

Ethan’s POV
“Tomorrow, I’ll accompany you to visit your father’s grave.”
The instant those words left my mouth, Lianne, who had been resting comfortably in my arms only moments earlier, lost all color from her face.
“No.” Lianne refused firmly.
My heart sank. Before I realized it, my hand had closed around her wrist with more force than I intended.
I searched her eyes, trying to understand whatever she was hiding behind that calm, unreadable gaze. “Why? Lianne, I’m your husband. I’m the father of our children. No matter how you look at it, I should go with you.”
“I already said I want to go by myself.” Her voice shook slightly, and her eyes quickly turned red as she refused to give in.
Afraid I might hurt her fragile wrist, I slowly released her, feeling utterly defeated.
The sudden loss of support made her stumble a little, and my heart lurched. I immediately reached out, caught her, and drew her back into my arms.
This time, she didn’t struggle or push me away. But she didn’t lean against me either. Though she stayed in my arms, it felt as if an invisible barrier separated us.
“Is it because your father wouldn’t want visitors?” I dropped my pride and asked softly, trying to understand her.
Lianne simply shook her head. Her lips pressed into a thin line, making it clear she had no intention of saying anything more.
The feeling of being kept outside her world was suffocating. It settled over me like a crushing weight.
In the end, I gave in. Swallowing my frustration, I tried another approach. “Then at least let me drive you there. I won’t enter the cemetery. I’ll stay in the car and wait outside. Would that be okay?”
“Ethan, there’s no need for that.” She pushed me away and turned her back to me.
The ride home was silent. The tension inside the car felt so thick that even breathing seemed difficult.
My hands tightened around the steering wheel. I felt confused and disappointed.
I had given Lianne everything I could.
There was nothing I had held back from her. I accommodated her wishes, loved her with all my heart, and wanted nothing more than to place every happiness in the world at her feet.
