Chapter 571

Chapter 571:
I reflexively turned toward the sound. A black Maybach shot out from the cemetery entrance like a streak cutting through darkness.
The shape of the vehicle looked exactly like Ethan’s car.
My heartbeat faltered.
Could that really have been Ethan?
Had he followed me because he could not stop worrying?
If he had seen Frank holding me while we came down the mountain… if he misunderstood the closeness between us… with Ethan’s possessive nature, I could not imagine how badly things might spiral.
“What’s wrong?” Frank noticed the sudden tension in my body and followed my line of sight, but the car had already vanished, leaving only drifting dust behind.
“It’s nothing. I’m exhausted, that’s all.” I rubbed my temples, forcing myself to appear calm.

Frank did not question me further. Instead, he spoke gently. “Remember to put ice on your ankle when you get home. And rest for a few days. You don’t always have to force yourself to endure everything alone, Lianne.”
I nodded quickly before getting into the car.
Throughout the drive back, that black Maybach kept replaying in my mind again and again.
The moment I arrived at the villa, I hurried straight to the garage instead of entering the house.
When I saw Ethan’s black Maybach parked neatly in its usual spot with the engine completely cold, I finally released the breath I had been holding.
It had probably been a coincidence. This city had plenty of wealthy residents, and identical luxury cars were hardly rare.
I was not worried for my own sake. I was afraid Ethan would misunderstand.
Everything was reaching a critical stage, and the truth about my father’s death was finally within reach. I could not allow pointless suspicions to damage the fragile trust holding us together.
Lianne’s POV
The moment I stepped through the door, the faint sound of Ruby and Silas’s laughter drifted down from upstairs. The cheerful noise of children at play filled the air.
Yet the living room below felt strangely empty and cold. Ethan was nowhere to be seen.
“Silas?” I called, placing a hand on the staircase railing.
A small head appeared over the second-floor banister. Silas was holding a partially dismantled precision part, his expression as calm as ever. “Mommy, you’re back.”
“Where’s your dad?”
“He played with us for a little while, but he seemed distracted.” Silas’s brow furrowed as he thought back. “He kept checking the time. Then about thirty minutes ago, he got a phone call and rushed out. He looked strange. He didn’t tell us where he was going.”
The uneasiness I had just suppressed suddenly burst free and spread through me.
Thirty minutes ago. That was exactly when I had seen that car leaving the cemetery.
I sat on the couch and stared at my phone for a long moment before finally dialing Ethan’s private number.
The phone rang endlessly. Just when I thought he wouldn’t answer, Noah picked up.
“Lianne.” His voice was calm and professional as always, giving away nothing.
“Where’s Ethan? Is he busy?” I asked, trying to sound casual.
