Chapter 572

Chapter 572:
“Yes. Alpha is currently dealing with an urgent meeting at the company. He’ll likely return very late.” After a brief pause, Noah added, “Would you like me to pass along a message?”
The tension I was feeling eased at his words.
“No, that’s okay. Let him focus on work. I’m fine.”
After ending the call, I laughed softly at myself. Maybe I really had been imagining things. Perhaps he wasn’t following me.
I headed upstairs, washed up, and changed into a soft silk nightdress.
The reflection staring back at me from the mirror looked exhausted and pale. My ankle had started recovering, but the swelling and redness were still obvious.
I sat on the edge of the bed, pressed an ice pack against the injury, and quietly waited for Ethan to come home.
Outside, it gradually grew dark. One after another, the lights surrounding the villa illuminated the darkness.

However, the uneasy feeling refused to leave. It wrapped around me, persistent and inescapable, until I could no longer focus on anything else.
I had assumed Ethan would call me as soon as his meeting ended.
But from afternoon until late at night, not a single call came. I checked my phone countless times. The screen remained dark.
As werewolves, mates were supposed to share the deepest connection imaginable.
But despite my wolf’s return, despite the passion Ethan had shown me the previous night, our mate bond still had not been restored.
Without our Mindlink, I couldn’t sense where he was. I couldn’t feel his emotions. I had no way of knowing whether he was safe. All I could do was speculate.
The feeling of being completely disconnected was suffocating.
“Mommy, isn’t Daddy home yet?” Ruby rubbed her sleepy eyes, her small voice tinged with disappointment.
“Daddy is busy, sweetheart. Why don’t you drink some milk first?” I forced a reassuring smile, but inside, the anxiety swelling in my heart rose higher and higher, like a tide I could no longer hold back.
I kept coming up with reasons to reassure myself.
Ethan was still recovering from serious injuries, and the Voss Group had accumulated months of unfinished work. Someone as disciplined and dedicated as him could easily become so absorbed in handling company matters that he forgot to check his phone.
“Mommy, stop making excuses for him.” Silas walked downstairs carrying his custom-built ultra-thin laptop. His face remained as unreadable as ever.
His eyes, so much like Ethan’s, seemed far too perceptive for a child his age. There was a quiet intelligence in them that made him appear older than he really was.
He stopped in front of me, turned the laptop screen in my direction, and pointed at lines of complicated code alongside several login records. “I accessed Voss Group’s internal system. Dad logged into his account around ten this morning and handled a few urgent files. But after one o’clock this afternoon, there hasn’t been any activity at all.” His little finger tapped the screen. “And there hasn’t been any emergency executive meeting recorded anywhere in the company’s network.”
