Chapter 574:
“Please, don’t do anything impulsive!” Noah finally cracked. He let out a long, troubled sigh, sounding conflicted and helpless. “Alpha specifically ordered me not to tell you. Why don’t you talk to him yourself? He’s at…”
Before Noah could finish speaking, my phone vibrated. A message popped up on the screen. It was a location pin. The cemetery.
My trembling fingers quickly typed out a message to Ethan. “Call me back right now, or you’ll never see me again.”
A few seconds later, my phone began vibrating.
The moment I answered, the tears I had been holding back began to pour down my face.
“Ethan, why did you lie to me?” I shouted, my voice shaking with hurt and anger. “Was it fun watching me sit at home worrying and waiting for you like an idiot?”
I was met with silence. For a while, all I could hear was the howling wind rushing through the phone.
At last, Ethan spoke. “Lianne, I’m sorry.” His deep voice carried a trace of weariness.
“Where are you?” I asked through clenched teeth.
“I’m at the entrance to the cemetery.” He didn’t try to hide the truth anymore. His tender voice made my heart ache. “I’ve been waiting at the bottom of the hill. From the moment you arrived until the moment you left, I stayed here the entire time.”
I went completely still. My fingers tightened around the phone as my whole body began to tremble. “You… followed me?”

“I was worried about you,” he said quietly. “I gave you my word that I wouldn’t go up and disturb your father’s peace. So I stayed here and waited outside the cemetery all day.”
For a moment, I couldn’t speak. My heart tightened so hard that I couldn’t breathe.
Lianne’s POV
When I returned to the lonely graveyard, night had already swallowed the sky whole.
Far beyond the entrance, a weak row of streetlamps blinked against the darkness, stretching the silhouette of the man waiting beside the iron gates.
Ethan remained exactly where he said he would be, standing outside without crossing into the cemetery once.
Several yards away, Noah’s vehicle sat hidden beneath a cluster of trees, engine dark and silent. He stayed nearby like a watchful protector who wanted to help his Alpha yet knew better than to interfere.
I stepped out of the car and rushed straight toward Ethan.
Before I reached him, the bitter smell of tobacco drifted through the cold air.
Ethan almost never touched cigarettes unless something had truly shattered him inside.
As I drew closer, I noticed the ground around his boots covered with discarded cigarette ends, every last spark already dead. I couldn’t even guess how long he had stood there or how many packs he had finished.
The sound of my approach made him turn slowly toward me. His eyes, usually steady and unreadable, were now stained red with exhaustion.
“Why did you come?” he asked quietly, his voice roughened almost beyond recognition.
Out of instinct, he shifted backward slightly before adding under his breath, “Nobody else is here. I only wanted some time alone.”
