Chapter 579:
“Mom, Dad looks scary right now,” Ruby announced innocently while staring out the window.
“He’s jealous. Alphas sometimes might become irrationally possessive,” Silas added matter-of-factly, adjusting his tiny sunglasses.
Ethan’s expression darkened instantly at his son’s comment, yet instead of denying it, he admitted openly, “He’s correct. I am jealous. Frank’s been after your mother for years. The only reason he’s still alive is that I don’t want to upset her.”
I burst out laughing despite myself, allowing the call to continue ringing until it eventually stopped.
By the time we reached the hospital, Melisa had already arranged a complete series of examinations.
She remained entirely professional throughout the process, even assigning male doctors to handle any physical procedures while she focused solely on reviewing the medical data herself.
After what felt unbearably long, the final results were delivered. Everything was normal.

“Alpha’s healing abilities surpassed even my expectations. Lianne, you can stop worrying now. His condition is excellent. Tomorrow we’ll remove the stitches,” Melisa said with visible relief while holding the report.
The pressure weighing on me for days finally loosened.
Once Melisa left, I noticed Ethan was occupied on a phone call and quickly slipped into the bathroom to return Frank’s missed call.
The instant the connection went through, my grip tightened around the phone. “Frank, what happened?”
Lianne’s POV
Frank spoke in a muted, heavy tone. “Early this morning, the burial grounds where your father rests were shut down completely. The Voss Group bought the entire property and classified it as restricted access. Security has orders to keep everyone out except immediate relatives attending memorial visits. Even the staff I arranged to maintain the grave were terminated.”
My body went rigid as icy dread crept through me.
Ethan… how could he do this?
He had promised not to meddle or dig into things, yet behind my back, he chose the harshest possible tactic. By cutting Frank off from my father’s grave, he had also erased Frank’s final reason to come near me.
Frank let out a rough breath. “Lianne, this has become unbearable. Ethan has gone too far.”
A wave of guilt twisted inside me. “Frank… I’m so sorry.”
He exhaled slowly. “That’s not what I want from you. I’m telling you because you need to understand exactly what kind of person that man truly is. Someone willing to lock down an entire cemetery is capable of trapping you completely.”
I drew in a steadying breath. “I’ll handle it. I’ll speak to him personally and make sure those restrictions are removed. You’ll be allowed back in. I promise I’ll sort this out.”
Just before ending the call, my tone softened. “And Frank… the investigation I asked about, my father’s death. Please move faster if you can. I can’t shake the feeling that something bad is closing in on us.”
Frank’s voice regained some firmness. “Leave it to me. I’ve already uncovered a few promising clues.”
Ethan’s POV
Today, my stitches were going to be removed.
Just before sunrise, I sensed movement against my chest.
