Chapter 580:
Lianne had always been contradictory that way. She acted distant, yet cared more deeply than anyone around her.
She eased herself out of bed without disturbing me, and moments later, the quiet sound of running water drifted from the bathroom.
When she returned, strands of messy hair framed her sleepy face, making her look soft and defenseless. “The bath’s ready. Go clean up while you still can. The doctor said the injury can’t get wet for a while after the stitches come out. Better not risk an infection.”
I followed her advice and stepped beneath the hot stream, allowing the heat to wash over the scars covering my body.
Mist filled the room while thoughts of Lianne occupied every corner of my mind.
Afterward, I slipped into a black silk robe and settled against the pillows.
Lianne approached with the hairdryer. Her fingers combed gently through my damp hair while warm air brushed across my skin. The simple intimacy of it eased something inside me.
“Ethan, stop moving,” she murmured. Her fingertips accidentally skimmed the edge of my ear, sending a faint shiver down my spine.
I shut my eyes and breathed in her scent, soft and familiar in a way no luxury fragrance could ever imitate.
A sudden knock interrupted the quiet atmosphere.

Melisa entered the hospital room right on schedule.
Dressed in an immaculate white coat with her hair tied neatly behind her, she carried a medical case and wore the composed expression of a professional.
“Time to take those stitches out,” she said while snapping latex gloves over her hands.
Then she glanced toward Lianne casually. “Oh, I almost forgot. I left a prescription antibacterial cream in the pharmacy downstairs on the third floor. Could you pick it up for me? The nurses there won’t hand it over unless a family member signs for it.”
Without suspicion, Lianne reminded me of a few precautions and headed out immediately.
The instant the door closed behind her, the mood inside the room changed.
I opened my eyes slowly, every trace of warmth gone.
As Melisa carefully removed the dressings, the sound of scissors slicing through gauze echoed sharply in the silence.
“You deliberately got rid of her. What is it you really want?” I asked coldly.
Her hands hesitated for the briefest second before continuing their work. After a pause, she finally spoke in a low voice. “Did Rola ever talk to you about a political marriage?”
I frowned but remained silent.
Melisa lifted her eyes toward me, and for the first time, I saw uncertainty breaking through her usual composure. “She intends for me to become your wife. According to her, it would protect the Thorn Pack’s bloodline and strengthen your authority among the elders.”
“That will never happen.” My response came instantly, firm enough to end any discussion before it began.
