Chapter 587

Chapter 587:
After a short pause, he continued calmly, “What made you start doubting it? Back then, everyone said it was an accident. The car slipped right off the cliff. I also heard his company was collapsing financially, and people believed the pressure pushed him to end his own life.”
My hands curled tightly into fists until my nails bit into my skin. “I accepted that story once. But the more I think about it, the less it makes sense. My father wasn’t weak. He would never abandon me like that. And I never even saw his body afterward. Everything happened too fast. They rushed the funeral, even though his body had never been recovered. Someone must be covering something up. I know they did!”
Seeing my composure crack apart, Ethan wrapped his arms firmly around me.
Then he tilted my chin upward, his eyes unwavering. “Lianne… do you believe in me?”
My pulse stumbled painfully.

Could I trust him?
Inside me, doubt and longing clashed violently.
He pressed his lips softly against my forehead. “Don’t worry. You’re the only Luna I’ve ever wanted. No matter what truth comes out, I won’t leave your side.”
The intensity of his devotion left me overwhelmed and unable to think clearly.
I looked away weakly. “Can we talk about this another time? I can’t sort through my thoughts right now.”
A faint darkness crossed his face at my avoidance.
“Another time?” A humorless laugh slipped from him as he made me look back at him. “You always retreat whenever things get serious between us.”
Fear flashed through me. Fear that he was angry. Fear that he might somehow uncover my plan to leave. Without thinking, I looped my arms around his neck and kissed him first.
A muffled sound escaped him before he immediately deepened the kiss, fierce and demanding.
“You belong to me, Lianne,” Ethan breathed against my mouth, his voice rough with emotion. “Tell me you’ll stay. Tell me you won’t walk away from me…”
My eyes drifted shut as tears slid silently down my face.
I couldn’t give him those words. So instead, I answered him the only way I could, surrendering to the desperate intensity of his love, allowing him, at least for this fleeting moment, to believe I was entirely his.
Lianne’s POV
Frank reached out the following day.
A cool dusk wind brushed against my skin while I gripped my cellphone so hard my knuckles lost their color.
Frank’s voice came through the receiver, heavy with seriousness. “Lianne, we finally uncovered something from the security recordings. The portion that was deleted is nearly repaired. Soon… you’ll learn the truth of your father’s death.”
“I see,” I murmured quietly.
Once the call ended, every ounce of energy seemed to leave me at once.
Golden twilight stretched my silhouette across the ground. I couldn’t bring myself to head back upstairs yet, so I remained on a bench outside the hospital, my thoughts drifting aimlessly.
“Why are you out here by yourself? Did something happen between you and Ethan?”
The familiar sound of a woman’s voice pulled me from my daze.
I lifted my eyes and found Melisa nearby with several files tucked in her arms. Though she tried to conceal it, worry flickered across her face.
