Chapter 591:
My voice cracked apart between uneven breaths. “Please don’t go… Lianne… the first time nearly destroyed me. Three and a half years felt like a lifetime. I can’t survive another goodbye from you.”
I buried my face against her neck, breathing her in desperately like she was the only thing tethering me to reality. The tears wouldn’t stop.
“You can’t leave me again. Please don’t do that to me,” I whispered brokenly.
By four in the morning, dense fog had swallowed the outskirts of Thiynia.
I stepped out of the vehicle and tightened my dark cashmere coat before heading toward the warehouse where Ivy was confined.
Behind rusted steel bars, she sat curled in the corner. Dirt stained her clothes and skin, destroying every trace of the polished woman she once tried to appear as.
The sound of my footsteps made her look up. Her eyes were bloodshot, gleaming with something unsettling when they met mine.
“Is Lianne asleep? Does she know you came here?” she asked quietly, breaking the silence first.
I remained near the shadows, staring down at her without warmth.
“Say whatever you called me here for. I’ve already exhausted my patience,” I replied coldly.
A hollow smile crossed her lips. “You’ve always been cruel, Ethan.”

She dragged herself upright using the wall for support. Chains scraped noisily across the floor as she approached the bars.
When she stopped in front of me, her stare looked almost feverish. “If Lianne had never existed… could you ever have loved me? Even a little?”
I felt absolutely nothing.
“That question is meaningless.” My tone stayed calm, detached enough to cut. “Without Lianne, I wouldn’t even be the person standing in front of you now. I never encouraged your feelings, Ivy. You turned your obsession into a fantasy and convinced yourself it was love.”
She went motionless for a moment before laughing bitterly through tears. “You really never gave me hope. But back then, you treated me differently. You acted like the world meant nothing to you except me. You made me believe that if I stayed close enough, worked hard enough, someday I’d matter.”
Her nails scraped harshly against the rusted metal as hatred twisted her expression. “But now I understand something. If I can’t have you, nobody will. Tell me, Ethan… do you really think keeping Lianne beside you means she’ll stay forever?”
My expression darkened instantly. “What are you implying?”
“You’re investigating her father’s death, aren’t you?” She leaned closer, her face warped by madness. “You still believe it was some tragic accident? A simple car crash? Your grandmother fooled every one of you.”
At the mention of Lianne’s father, unease coiled through my chest.
“Talk,” I ordered, stepping forward and gripping her jaw through the bars hard enough to bruise.
But Ivy only laughed harder, like the pain didn’t even register.
