Chapter 595

Chapter 595:
He gave me nothing in return. Instead, he turned and started walking toward the inpatient wing, every movement slow and burdened.
He refused to look at me even once.
I had never seen him like this.
Even during our worst arguments, Ethan’s attention had always burned intensely on me, impossible to escape.
Now, he acted as though my presence itself wounded him.
Fear hammering through my chest, I hurried after him and caught his sleeve.
The second my fingers closed around him, he instinctively stopped moving. No matter the situation, he always slowed for me, terrified I might stumble trying to keep up.
I stepped directly into his path and demanded, “Tell me the truth. You swore you’d never hide things from me.”
At last, he looked at me properly. What I found in his eyes was not the longing I had known. It was sorrow. Quiet, devastating sorrow.
“I lost track of time walking around,” he murmured weakly.

I knew instantly that he was lying.
I moved closer and wrapped my hands around his waist, desperate for reassurance.
Then I smelled… blood! Fresh blood. Sharp and metallic.
My fingers clenched against his coat and came away damp.
When I pulled my hand back, dark crimson smeared across my palm.
The black fabric had hidden it almost perfectly until I touched him. My stomach twisted violently.
“Are you injured? Or… did you do something to someone?” I whispered.
Ethan recoiled instantly, tearing himself away before quickening his pace.
Tears spilled down my face as I chased after him. “Ethan, stop! Last night, you begged me not to leave you. You promised to help me find out the truth about my father’s death. So what is this?”
His shoulders locked rigidly.
Sunlight spilled across him as he turned slightly away from me.
His eyes shut tightly, his throat moving with a painful swallow. “Don’t touch me, Lianne. I’m disgusting.”
The words cut through me like a blade.
Disgusting?
Among werewolves, only traitors and cowards carried that kind of shame.
Ethan was the greatest Alpha the Thorn Pack had ever followed. He had marched straight toward death alone to save me. How could he possibly think that of himself?
I ignored his rejection and grabbed his wrist again with stubborn determination.
He jerked away as though my touch burned him, repeatedly trying to shake me off.
Still, I refused to release him. Every time he pulled free, I reached for him again.
“Look at me, Ethan!” I shouted through tears.
Then everything changed at once.
Something inside him finally broke. He grabbed me suddenly and drove me back against the wall hard enough to steal my breath.
His body pressed over mine, trapping me between him and the cold concrete, desperation radiating from him in frantic waves.
Then he kissed me. Roughly. Desperately.
There was nothing gentle about it. The kiss felt wild, almost feral, torn between possession and surrender.
The taste of blood flooded my mouth instantly, bitter and thick. He clung to me like a man unraveling, as though this kiss was the only thing keeping him grounded in reality.
