Chapter 598:
His words came out rough and broken. “That’s not true. You’re always preparing to leave. The agreement with Rola… what happens after that? Is there still a future for us?”
Pain twisted sharply inside my chest, and instinctively, I avoided answering.
Instead, I cradled his pale face between my palms. “Don’t think that far ahead right now. Focus on recovering first. You’re not only the Alpha of the Thorn Pack. Ruby and Silas still need their father. They’re waiting for you to come home. And I need you alive too.”
For a moment, emotion crossed his face at the mention of the children, but despair swallowed it almost immediately.
“Please don’t abandon me. Even if you hate me… don’t leave me alone,” he whispered, pressing his forehead against mine.
I had never witnessed Ethan this shattered before.
Among werewolves, an Alpha represented power, dominance, and invulnerability.

Yet now he resembled someone stranded in endless snow after losing the final trace of warmth keeping him alive.
The ache in my chest became unbearable. I promised, “When you wake up, I’ll still be here. I swear.”
He continued staring into my eyes without blinking, as though searching for proof hidden somewhere deep inside my soul.
Lianne’s POV
The next moment, Ethan leaned down and kissed me.
Unlike the fierce kiss we had shared in the hallway, this one was filled with fear and uncertainty.
His lips were still cold and rough.
I didn’t pull away. I opened my lips and accepted him completely, returning every kiss he gave me.
After taking a cold shower, Ethan’s body had become very chilled. Even through our clothes and the blanket separating us, I could feel the cold radiating from him. His entire frame shook uncontrollably.
Taking a deep breath, I reached for the sash around my robe and loosened it. Then I loosened his.
“Ethan, stay still,” I whispered.
I removed every barrier between us and pressed myself against him, letting my warmth envelop his freezing body.
For werewolves, this kind of closeness was a natural form of comfort.
The moment my body touched his ice-cold skin, Ethan let out a deep, guttural sigh of both relief and pain.
The kiss ended, leaving the room heavy with a mix of longing and sadness.
I thought Ethan would lose control and take things further. Since he was in heat, this level of closeness should have been impossible to resist.
Yet he did nothing.
He just breathed heavily and buried his face in my neck. Then he lay there quietly, making no move at all.
“Ethan?” I called softly, unable to hide my confusion.
“I’m going to sleep,” he muttered with exhaustion. “Don’t leave.”
His eyes never opened, but his lashes trembled slightly, revealing the storm of emotions he was struggling to suppress.
I lifted my hand, wanting to touch his face. But before I could, he grabbed my wrist.
Without opening his eyes, Ethan held on tightly. His voice was rough and strained as he whispered the same words again and again. “I’m sorry… Lianne, I’m so sorry…”
My heart jolted.
Why was he apologizing?
A strange sense of dread immediately washed over me.
