Chapter 602:
The children continued playing for a while before an argument eventually broke out.
Ruby came running back to me in tears, complaining that her brother had accidentally knocked her down and refused to apologize.
I went over to settle the dispute and found Silas awkwardly rubbing a scraped knee. His little face was stiff with stubbornness, but he looked clearly guilty.
“Silas, you’re the older brother and the future Alpha,” I said as I crouched down to his level. “A good leader has the courage to admit when they’re wrong and to protect those who are weaker.”
Silas pressed his lips together. He wrestled with himself for a while, then finally mumbled an apology to Ruby.
Ruby immediately stopped crying. She broke into a bright smile, grabbed her brother’s hand, and pulled him toward the sandbox. Their little quarrel was forgotten as quickly as it had begun.
As I watched their innocent faces, some of the darkness weighing on my heart eased.
I wished this moment could stay frozen forever.

“Mom!” Silas suddenly came running back, clutching his laptop. His face was red with panic. “My laptop suddenly went blank! I was running an important simulation, and it crashed! I need Dad to fix it!”
“No, Silas.” I gently stopped him before he could run off. “Your father is in a very important meeting right now. He absolutely cannot be interrupted. Once he’s done, I’ll take you to him, okay?”
The words had barely left my mouth when my phone began to vibrate in my pocket.
I pulled it out and saw Frank’s name flashing on the screen.
My heart immediately sank. A strong sense of dread rose inside me.
Signaling for the children to continue playing, I quickly walked toward a quiet corner of the garden, then answered the call.
“Hello, Frank. Did you find anything?” I asked in a whisper, my breathing growing faster.
For a moment, the line was silent. Then Frank finally spoke. He sounded frustrated and helpless. “Lianne, we’ve got a problem.”
My hand tightened around the phone. “What happened?” I asked sharply. “Tell me everything.”
“We managed to find a backup copy of the clinic’s surveillance footage from years ago,” Frank said, each word sounding strained. “But right before my team could secure the disk, we were intercepted by a group of highly trained, heavily armed men.”
My heart jumped. “Who were they? Rola’s people?”
“No.” Frank’s voice was low and heavy. “My men identified some of them. They were members of Thorn Pack Alpha’s personal guards. Lianne… they were Ethan’s men. They seized all the original recordings and destroyed every backup right there.”
Something seemed to explode inside my head.
I stood motionless. The sun still blazed overhead, but an icy chill spread through my body.
Ethan’s people had taken the evidence. And they had wiped out every last copy.
Lianne’s POV
I stumbled backward, crashing against the trunk of a tree. My back slammed hard against the rough bark, and the sting of pain brought a small measure of clarity to my foggy mind.
