Chapter 604:
“How could you…” I lunged forward and grabbed the collar of his robe with both hands. My voice broke with fury and grief. “It was the only chance my father had to get justice! Ethan, what gave you the right to destroy it?”
He let out a cold laugh.
Without warning, his arm wrapped around my waist, and he pulled me into the room with ease. Then the door slammed shut behind us.
Ethan pressed me against the door, his tall frame enveloping me completely. The sheer force of his presence left me feeling trapped.
“What exactly are you going to do with that disk?” he demanded. “Use unclear footage to send someone to prison? Or are you planning to use it as a reason to cut all ties with me, take Ruby and Silas, and disappear?”
“I just want the truth!” I shouted, tears pouring down my face. “I want to know how much suffering my father went through before he died! I want the person who killed him to answer for it! Is that really too much to ask?”
“And what about me?” Ethan burst out. For the first time, the calm mask he always wore fell apart. The veins on his temples stood out sharply as he braced his hands against the door on either side of my head. “I’ve been thinking about our future. I’ve been trying to secure your place in this family. But you have been planning to leave me from the moment you came back! Have you ever once thought about staying with me?”
“No!” I met his eyes head-on, tears streaming down my cheeks. “Your family killed my father! How could you possibly expect me to stay?” My voice trembled with rage. “You destroyed my last chance to find the truth, Ethan. You make me sick.”
“Make you sick?” He repeated the words slowly. His eyes turned dark. “Can you stop for a second and listen to me?”
“I don’t want to hear anything you have to say!” I yelled.

Then I dropped my head and sank my teeth into his collarbone with all the strength I had, trying to tear away a piece of him.
Ethan didn’t resist. He endured it in silence. After a long while, he finally said in a rough, hoarse voice, “The evidence is gone. Lianne, there’s nowhere else for you to go. You’ll stay with me.”
That was the straw that broke the camel’s back.
I completely lost control. I punched his chest and shoulders again and again, each blow carrying all the grief and fury I could no longer contain.
“How dare you! That was my hope! My last chance to get justice for my father!” My voice was raw from screaming. “Ethan, do you really have to push me to the brink? Do you think destroying the evidence will make me stay here? Do you think I’ll remain in this family steeped in blood and deception and continue allowing you to control my life?”
Tears blurred my vision. I looked up at him, my voice breaking under the weight of despair.
