Chapter 605:
Ethan didn’t move. He stood there like a lifeless statue, unaffected by the blows raining down on him. He allowed me to pour out every bit of anger, sorrow, and helplessness I had buried inside.
His dark green eyes reflected my broken image, deep and unreadable.
Eventually, I had no strength left. My punches weakened into faint taps, then stopped altogether. My body slid down the door until I collapsed onto the floor. Clutching the edge of his robe, I covered my face with trembling hands as muffled sobs escaped my lips.
“I don’t understand…” The words caught in my throat. Bitterness, grief, and exhaustion weighed heavily on my heart. “My dad never did anything wrong. So why did he have to die? I couldn’t even find his body. Why did all of you do this to him?”
I lifted my head and looked at Ethan in despair. My voice dropped to a bitter whisper. “It was Rola, wasn’t it?” I asked. “Then why didn’t she kill me too?”
Tears flowed uncontrollably down my cheeks.

At last, Ethan moved. He slowly crouched in front of me.
He raised his fingers and wiped my tears. Over and over, he wiped them away as fresh ones continued to fall.
His touch was cool against my skin, but it could not calm the chaos raging inside me.
“Lianne,” he said, his voice hoarse, heavy with a sadness that seemed to weigh him down. “In your heart… was there ever a moment when you trusted me?”
I froze. Looking at him through tear-blurred eyes, I could only stare in silence.
He pressed, “Did you already expect us to fall out from the moment you arrived in Thiynia?”
Lianne’s POV
A hollow laugh escaped Ethan, strained and bitter enough to hurt more than tears ever could. “So you’d rather believe someone else than hear me out?”
My thoughts scattered. I tried to answer, yet nothing formed on my tongue.
Frank’s findings seemed undeniable. The guards from Thorn Pack truly had seized the disk. That part had never been in question.
Before I could gather myself, Ethan spoke again, his composure eerily steady. “How much longer does your deal with Rola last?”
The question caught me off guard, and I replied automatically, “Three more days.”
For a brief second, something inside him appeared to collapse. His posture sagged, and he slowly increased the distance between us.
“I see,” he murmured. Whatever warmth remained in his gaze disappeared completely. “When those three days are over, you’ll be free.”
My mind went blank.
Wasn’t freedom the very thing I’d fought for all this time?
Then why did those words cut so deeply that it felt as though my chest had been torn open, leaving only agony behind?
“The footage…” My voice faltered as my thoughts tangled around the destroyed file.
Ethan lifted his eyes toward me. “Nic only managed to retrieve a small portion of the data. That fragment carried a hidden wipe sequence along with a destructive malware program. The second your people accessed it, the file would’ve vanished. Worse, it would’ve traced back through your systems and corrupted all the evidence tied to your investigation.”
Shock spread through me instantly.
