Chapter 612:
To anyone else, our day at the amusement park might have looked like the picture of a happy family outing. But the two of us both understood the reality. As long as those hidden secrets remained between us, genuine peace would always be beyond our reach.
On the drive back, exhaustion finally caught up with me, and I drifted off to sleep with my head resting against the car window.
Half-asleep, I felt a pair of strong arms carefully lifting me. The familiar scent of cedar surrounded me.
Even before I opened my eyes, I knew it was Ethan carrying me back to the hospital room.
At two o’clock in the morning, an unexplainable sense of unease suddenly pulled me from my sleep.
The room was shrouded in darkness, with only pale moonlight filtering through the window.

Ethan lay beside me, his breathing slow and even, unusually clear in the stillness of the night.
By force of habit, I turned toward him, reaching for the comfort of his embrace. Yet my hands stopped halfway.
Ethan was lying flat on his back, both hands resting neatly at his sides.
He no longer reached for me in his sleep the way he once had, no longer unconsciously holding me close as though afraid I might disappear.
That carefully maintained distance, that quiet restraint, left a dull ache spreading through my chest.
It turned out that when he truly decided to let me go, even his posture in sleep became restrained.
Silently, I picked up my phone from the bedside table and padded over to the sofa across the room.
The screen illuminated the darkness, revealing a single unread message from an airline company.
It was a first-class plane ticket for a flight departing Thiynia at noon the following day.
The passenger’s name was Lianne Riley.
Lianne’s POV
Today marked my departure. The agreement I had struck with the Thorn Pack had come to its end.
I did not need to wonder who had booked the ticket for me. It was Ethan.
He had promised that once the three days were over, he would let me go.
As the Alpha of Thorn Pack, Ethan had always kept his promises.
I bit my lower lip, fighting to hold back the overwhelming emotions rising inside me.
A bitter ache spread through my heart.
For a man like Ethan, handing me evidence strong enough to ruin his family’s reputation was the greatest concession he could possibly make.
On one side stood the Voss family, the ones who had raised him. On the other side stood me, the one whose father they had murdered.
The weight he carried was far too heavy, leaving him trapped between obligation and love, and unable to choose either without losing something precious.
I should not ask for more. I should not wish for Ethan to throw everything away and walk away with me.
My eyes filled with tears, but I tried to hold them back.
I refused to cry. I did not want him to see my most vulnerable side in our last moments together.
Needing an escape from the unbearable atmosphere, I decided to step outside and get some air.
