Chapter 615:
I remained composed while Ivy fought uselessly against the truth. With deliberate calm, I told her, “Ethan had secured a copy of the video long before any of this happened and kept it hidden himself. He even overrode every destruction measure using his own clearance. Ivy, you never understood how far he was willing to go for my sake.”
The smugness on Ivy’s face vanished instantly.
All color drained from her skin. Her knees buckled beneath her as though the strength had been ripped from her body. Shaking, she whispered over and over, “That’s impossible… he’s insane… he really betrayed his own grandmother because of you…”
At that instant, the final piece fell into place. Rola had been behind everything.
The fury and sorrow I had buried for years tore free all at once.
I saw my father in my mind. Kindhearted. Quiet. A man who had never harmed anyone. Yet he had been swallowed by the savage struggles for dominance within the pack and murdered without mercy.
Fifty milligrams of mercury. Enough to guarantee a slow, excruciating death.
When his final moments came, he faced them in complete isolation. I, his daughter, had not even been there to hold his hand.

They had ruthlessly murdered my father, convinced their influence would shield them forever. Did they truly believe the truth would remain hidden forever?
“You’ll all answer for this,” I said in an icy voice before turning away.
“Lianne!” Ivy suddenly called after me, desperation twisting through her sharp tone. “Before you leave, answer me this. Did you ever love Ethan at all? Or did you only stay close to him so you could use his guilt against him and carry out your revenge?”
My steps slowed.
Her words pierced straight into the place I guarded most.
My nails bit into my skin as I clenched my fists, but no reply came from my lips.
“You don’t even understand what love is.” A dark laugh slipped from Ivy’s throat, cold and cruel. “Your heart stopped feeling anything a long time ago. Ethan handed everything sincere and vulnerable inside him to someone incapable of compassion. I’m the one who understands him completely. I’m the only person who can stand beside him with absolute faith. But you? You’ll never be able to give him that.”
Her voice dragged me back to the hospital room. Ethan had gripped my wrist tightly, pain burning in his reddened eyes as he asked, “Lianne… have you ever stopped to think about what this has been like for me?”
Back then, I believed he was trying to sway me emotionally, hoping I would pity him enough to spare his family.
Only now did I finally understand.
He had never wanted surrender from me. He never expected me to abandon the search for justice.
What he had wanted was trust.
He wanted me to trust him completely. To believe he could carry the burden himself. To believe he would make things right for me. To believe he would still choose justice over blood ties and stand beside me until the end.
And I had failed him entirely.
From the start, I treated him like danger waiting to strike. Every moment beside him, I stayed guarded as though he were something vicious that could turn on me at any second.
