Chapter 617:
A light jacket hung loosely from her frame, and she appeared far more fragile than I remembered.
The instant our eyes met, she stopped dead in her tracks. A heartbeat later, she hurried toward me and wrapped both arms around me so tightly I could barely breathe. Her body trembled as sobs tore out of her, tears mixing with the rainwater clinging to her cheeks.
Several passersby slowed down to stare, sympathy written plainly across their faces.
I rubbed her damp back softly and let out a faint laugh. “Come on. Why are you breaking down like this at an airport? Strangers are probably assuming I bullied you.”
I understood Tracy better than anyone. She had always been fierce and stubborn, the type who charged headfirst into trouble without fear. This wasn’t simple excitement from seeing me again. All the pressure she’d been bottling up had finally cracked open.

“What happened? Did Jeremy hurt you somehow?” I eased her away enough to study her swollen eyes.
She dragged a shaky breath into her lungs and wiped at her face. Her voice came out rough and uneven. “Lianne… I can’t marry him anymore. The ceremony is off.”
A heaviness settled in my chest. Taking her hand, I guided her toward the exit while lowering my tone. “Are you certain about this? Or are you reacting in the heat of the moment?”
Her shoulders slumped as she followed beside me in silence, looking utterly defeated.
Beyond the glass doors, rain poured down in endless sheets, swallowing the city in gray.
Luckily, she had driven herself. We dashed through the storm toward her vehicle, though neither of us escaped without getting drenched.
Inside, the cabin felt cramped and hushed except for the steady scrape of the wipers moving across the windshield.
Seeing her reddened eyes and tense expression, I spoke carefully. “If part of you still wants this relationship, maybe you should sit down and talk things through with Jeremy. What happened between the two of you isn’t like the mess Ethan and I carry.”
She immediately rejected the idea with a firm shake of her head. “No, Lianne. This is beyond fixing. Some damage doesn’t disappear after a conversation.”
“Then explain it to me. What could possibly destroy everything this badly?” I insisted.
I had witnessed Jeremy’s devotion myself. He might have earned a reputation for flirting, but he had never treated Tracy lightly.
Silence filled the car.
Tracy kept staring through the rain-blurred glass before finally speaking. “Jeremy has a little girl. She’s already three. Her mother hid the pregnancy from him, and he only learned about her not long ago.”
For several seconds, my thoughts simply stopped.
How was that even possible?
Jeremy had pursued Tracy so openly, talking about marriage as though his future was already decided. Yet nobody in our circle had mentioned a child. Not even Ethan, who somehow always knew everything before everyone else.
Any woman preparing for marriage would be crushed by news like this.
