Chapter 625:
I couldn’t stop wondering whether she had been sleeping well. Had leaving me finally brought her the peace she deserved?
The moment I stepped out of the car, I saw Jeremy, who was sitting outside the entrance to the apartment building.
He had been dozing off, but the sound of my car door closing startled him awake. As soon as he saw me, his eyes widened in disbelief. “Ethan? What are you doing here?”
I quickly pressed a hand over his mouth and shot him a warning look.
“Keep your voice down,” I whispered.
I didn’t want Lianne to know I had come. I didn’t want her to think I was stalking her, refusing to let go.

Grabbing Jeremy by the collar, I hauled him away from the entrance and pushed him into my car.
“Why did you come here yourself?” Jeremy asked, rubbing the back of his neck as he stared at me in confusion.
“I’m worried about Lianne,” I answered shortly, my eyes fixed on the closed window of the apartment above.
Jeremy gave a bitter chuckle, his face full of weary resignation. “So we’re both just as pathetic. Sometimes I think you’ve got it even worse than I do. At least I can sit outside and wait. You don’t even dare let Lianne know you’re here.”
“I don’t have it worse,” I replied coldly. “At least I have Ruby and Silas with me. You’re all alone.”
The moment I mentioned the children, all the strength seemed to drain from Jeremy’s face.
He leaned back against the seat and said in a defeated tone, “I failed. Tracy begged me to let her go. She said she has made up her mind and won’t keep the baby. She can’t accept the daughter I had with my ex suddenly becoming part of our lives. She told me she isn’t some selfless saint who can pretend none of it matters.”
I looked at Jeremy’s broken expression. What he said next sent a wave of anger through me.
“So you’re waiting around here too?” Jeremy asked, raising an eyebrow. “Is it because Frank came by the apartment yesterday? He stayed for quite a while before he finally left.”
I gave him a cold look, refusing to waste my time on pointless jealousy.
Then I reached into my pocket, took out a neatly folded blood test report, and tossed it onto his lap. “Take a look at this.”
Still irritated, Jeremy unfolded the report with a frown. “What’s this?” he asked. “A blood test for my daughter? Why are you showing me this?”
“Your blood type is AB, isn’t it?” I asked.
“Yeah.” He shrugged carelessly. “So?”
I let out a weary sigh, feeling like I was explaining the most basic biology lesson to someone who had never paid attention in school. “Jeremy, think about it. If one parent has AB blood type, the child can’t be born with O blood type. But according to that report, the little girl has O blood type.”
Jeremy paused, and his eyes widened in shock.
A suffocating silence hung in the air.
