Chapter 637:
Before today, I had already accepted the possibility of the worst outcome.
Even if every lawyer refused to represent me, I had decided I would pursue the public prosecution process on my own, no matter how many setbacks or barriers stood in my way.
But things were different now. I had signed an official contract, and a professional legal team was standing beside me. Now that the agreement was in place, they couldn’t simply abandon the case. That was the industry standard.
Sitting in front of my laptop, I carefully went through every detail of my father’s case, reading each line with total focus. Just then, my phone buzzed with an incoming call. It was Frank.
“Lianne, how are things going?” His voice was as gentle and warm as ever, carrying the quiet reassurance that always put me at ease.
“They’re going really well, Frank.” A small smile spread on my face. “I found a lawyer. His name is Tim, and he’s with Bastion Law Firm.”
“Bastion Law Firm?” Frank sounded stunned. “They actually agreed to represent you? Aren’t they worried about making enemies of the Voss family? What about retaliation from the Thorn Pack?”

“Tim said that no one is above justice or the law.” I repeated the lawyer’s words to Frank, but I still couldn’t shake the feeling that this sudden commitment to justice had shown up a little too conveniently.
After we finished talking about the case, the conversation naturally turned to Tracy.
When I told him she had gotten back together with Jeremy, the line went silent for a minute. Then Frank asked, “Lianne, are you sure? Jeremy’s reputation is awful. I’m afraid Tracy has fallen for his sweet talk.”
“Frank, don’t worry,” I said gently, trying to reassure him. “Tracy is a grown woman. She knows Jeremy’s history better than anyone else. Their breakup was caused by a huge misunderstanding. Now that everything has been cleared up, she has made this decision after thinking it through carefully. Besides… she never really stopped loving him, and she’s carrying his baby.”
Frank sighed, still sounding worried. He told me to tell Tracy to return his call as soon as possible.
I agreed and, after ending the call, immediately sent Tracy a text passing along his request.
After that, the room sank into an oppressive silence.
I walked over to the window and pulled the curtain aside to look outside.
Again and again, my eyes searched the street beneath the apartment building.
There was no one there.
Ethan had really left.
I thought of the note he had left behind at the hotel. “At least make sure Frank is with you.”
Those words pierced my heart, leaving a persistent, deep ache.
I was the one to push him away. But now that he had truly respected my wishes and walked out of my life, an unbearable feeling of abandonment swallowed me whole. It felt as though the entire world had turned its back on me.
I let out a bitter laugh as my eyes stung.
