Chapter 641:
The display showed a long, polished table lined with stern executives in formal attire. At the head of it sat Ethan, dressed in a perfectly tailored black suit, reviewing paperwork.
The instant I appeared, his movements stopped.
His gaze sharpened toward the monitor with startling intensity, as if he could see straight through the screen.
Even through the display, the pressure radiating from him felt overwhelming. He had noticed me immediately.
I shifted uneasily in my chair, silently counting down the seconds until the restriction lifted. As the final moments approached, I reached for the exit button.
Then Ethan’s low voice cut through the speakers. “Lianne. Do you need something?”
The instant my name echoed through the conference room, humiliation crashed over me so hard my scalp tingled.
My hands flew across the keyboard, shaking. “Sorry. Wrong link. Please continue the meeting.”
The moment I hit send, I regretted ever typing in that password.
I had never once tried to sneak into a meeting at that level before. How was I supposed to know he still used my birthday?
Worse, the system had announced my arrival to everyone and then trapped me there.

Terrified that another notification would pop up announcing my departure, I stayed frozen in front of the monitor, too afraid to move and risk becoming the company’s newest piece of gossip.
So I stayed, listening as Ethan discussed the upcoming quarterly developments.
And unfortunately, I had to admit something. When Ethan gave himself entirely to work, he became dangerously captivating.
His business instincts were frighteningly sharp. Every decision he made carried a clean precision — cold, efficient, and merciless.
No wonder he stood at the very top of the industry. He had earned that reputation for a reason.
His calm voice flowed steadily through the speakers, deep and magnetic enough to make it hard to concentrate.
Gradually, my thoughts drifted elsewhere.
I remembered mornings when he would still be half-asleep, pulling me against him possessively, his face buried against my neck, his rough voice murmuring softly by my ear.
Back then, that tenderness had belonged to me alone. Now it existed only as a distant memory.
A painfully long hour finally came to an end. The moment the meeting was over, I was automatically removed from the conference room.
I leaned back in my chair with a relieved sigh. But before I could enjoy a moment of peace, my phone began vibrating.
I recognized the number immediately.
As soon as I picked up, an uncomfortable silence settled over both ends of the line.
“Do you need something?” Ethan asked at last. His voice was calm, giving nothing away.
“I… joined the meeting by accident,” I said awkwardly, struggling to come up with an excuse.
I regretted it the second it left my mouth.
A password-protected meeting wasn’t somewhere anyone could accidentally join. My excuse sounded weak, even to my own ears.
Fortunately, he didn’t call me out on it. He just stayed silent.
The silence between us stretched on, strange and tense. Neither of us ended the call. The only sound was our soft breathing.
