Chapter 643:
After a brief silence, I admitted softly, “I missed all of you.”
Ruby giggled, clapping her hands. Then she urged me to finish my work soon so I could come take them home.
I smiled and answered gently, but Silas, standing beside her, noticed something.
He looked at me quietly, frowning, then asked in a serious tone, “Something isn’t right. Mommy, why aren’t you and Daddy as close as before? Daddy’s been staying out of the camera the whole time. He hasn’t even talked to you.”
My heart jumped. Trying to hide my panic, I forced out an explanation. “He’s busy working. He has a lot of important things to do.”
I didn’t want my children to see the ugliness of the adult world, much less let their innocent hearts be tainted by resentment and separation.
But Silas wasn’t convinced. “That’s not true,” he said earnestly. “Daddy was just sitting on the couch, thinking. He didn’t even have his laptop with him.”
The atmosphere instantly turned awkward.
Just as I didn’t know how to respond, Ethan came back into the camera’s view.

His expression remained calm as he ruffled Silas’s hair. “I was thinking through a difficult project,” he explained softly. “I got distracted for a while. Now, why don’t you tell Mommy about all the fun things you did today?”
With just a few words, he smoothly eased Silas’s doubts. Silas quickly forgot about his questions. He grabbed Ruby, and both of them excitedly began telling me everything they had done that day.
I stayed on the video call with them for a long time. Ruby could no longer fight off her sleepiness and dozed off with her little head resting on Silas’s shoulder. Then I reluctantly ended the call.
After setting my phone down, I sat quietly at my desk, staring at the blank screen. Slowly, a soft smile spread across my face.
Even though I had accidentally joined the meeting earlier, today had been the easiest and happiest day I’d had in a long time.
The lawsuit was finally moving in a good direction. Tracy had found her happiness again. And most importantly, I had been able to see my children and look at Ethan without guilt or the need to avoid him.
For me, that was a healing moment, even if it only lasted a little while.
Ethan’s POV:
After carefully tucking Ruby and Silas into bed, I returned to the desk in the suite.
My phone screen lit up with a new email notification from Noah.
Attached was Lianne’s newly submitted resignation letter.
“Alpha, Ms. Riley’s resignation has been received by HR.” Noah’s follow-up message came almost immediately. “Should I use my authority to delay the approval, or invoke the contractual clauses to keep her with the company?”
I stared at the neatly written resignation letter on the screen, my fingers hovering over the keyboard.
She really wanted to leave. She wanted to cut every remaining tie to the Voss family… and to me.
Finally, I typed a brief reply. “Approve her resignation.”
