Chapter 645:
Sipping espresso, I highlighted key points and filled in every missing detail.
It wasn’t until dawn began to break that I finally caught a brief nap on the sofa.
The moment my alarm went off, I got up immediately, splashed cold water on my face, and changed into a sharply tailored charcoal-gray skirt suit.
A light touch of makeup concealed the faint shadows beneath my eyes, and I arrived at Voss Group headquarters right on time.

The moment I stepped into the company lobby, a familiar sense of tension settled over me. Since I didn’t know many people there, spotting Alex’s familiar face brought an unexpected sense of relief.
“Lianne? You’re here!” Alex exclaimed, staring at me in obvious surprise, his eyes sparkling with curiosity.
He had clearly assumed that after submitting my resignation, I’d simply remain a name on paper and wouldn’t actually return to the office.
I quickly pulled him into a quiet corner and lowered my voice. “Alex, I’m begging you, please don’t tell anyone at the company about my history with Ethan. I’m only here to complete the handover.”
Instead of answering my request, he grinned and said, “Come on, you’re not fooling me. Everyone knows how outstanding Alpha is. The fact that he trusted you with such an important project already tells everyone how special you are to him. The whole company thinks you’re practically the future—”
“Stop.” I cut him off with an exasperated sigh, then spoke firmly. “Alex, Ethan and I are over. Completely. Please stop speculating. It’s getting on my nerves.”
Alex paused briefly before giving me a knowing smile, as though he’d pieced together a romantic drama. “Got it. Lovers’ quarrel, right? Alpha’s just being stubborn. Give him a little attention and he’ll come running back.”
I was utterly speechless. Anything I said now would only make the misunderstanding worse. Left with no better option, I simply put on a serious expression and told him to get back to work.
Alex immediately gave me a playful salute before turning to leave, flashing me a mischievous wink as he called over his shoulder, “As you command, Luna!”
I stood there watching him disappear down the hallway, a quiet sigh escaping my lips.
Shortly afterward, I followed Alex into the conference room. I took a deep breath, cleared my throat, and took my seat.
It was only a routine department meeting, nothing serious.
As everyone took turns presenting ideas for the new project, I opened the notes I had prepared overnight. Drawing on my experience overseas, I laid out a detailed analysis of the project’s key challenges and proposed a practical strategy to overcome them.
My presentation was clear, well-structured, and directly addressed every major issue. Alex nodded repeatedly in approval, while even several senior colleagues looked at me with unconcealed admiration.
“I disagree.” A sharp female voice suddenly interrupted the room.
I looked toward the speaker, unconsciously tightening my grip on the pen.
It was Zoe.
