Chapter 647:
I gave a cold laugh, no longer interested in continuing this argument behind closed doors.
I stood up so suddenly that Zoe didn’t even have time to react. Grabbing her by the collar, I dragged her to the office entrance and pulled the door open.
“Everyone, may I have your attention for a moment?” I called out loudly, my sharp voice cutting through the hum of activity in the office area.
The bustling space fell silent in an instant.
I pointed at Zoe, whose face had turned completely pale, and addressed everyone. “Miss Hinks just informed me that every man in her group is an idiot who’s been fooled by my looks. I’d like to ask — does anyone here agree with her opinion?”

Immediately, furious eyes turned toward Zoe.
Hearing the disturbance, Alex rushed over from the office next door.
The moment he saw what was happening, his face darkened. He stared at Zoe with a freezing glare, then said sternly, “Zoe, get in my office. Now!”
By noon, I had finished handing out the printed project schedules to everyone.
With the busiest part of the morning finally over, I stretched my sore neck and got ready to head to the staff cafeteria for a quick lunch. Just then, Alex showed up at my office door again, wearing an ingratiating smile that looked almost amusing.
“Ms. Riley, would you like to have lunch with me? I’d like to treat you,” he asked cautiously.
I arched a brow, curious. “You want to buy me lunch, Alex? What’s the catch?”
He rubbed the back of his head in embarrassment, then said honestly, “Actually… I wanted to apologize for Zoe. What happened this morning was unpleasant. She’s young and new here, so she doesn’t really understand how things work yet. I hope you won’t take it personally.”
I waved him off and said calmly, “You’re worrying too much. Disagreements happen in every workplace. I don’t have the time or energy to obsess over something so minor. As long as she concentrates on doing her job from now on, I have no intention of making things difficult for her.”
Taking the chance, I reminded him to choose a few reliable team members to handle the due diligence follow-up that afternoon. Then I added, “I’ll be stopping by the law firm after work to deal with a personal matter, so I won’t be staying late tonight. I’ll take the report home and review it there. It won’t affect our overall schedule.”
Alex nodded repeatedly. Seeing that I wasn’t upset, he finally relaxed, then turned to leave.
I locked my office door and made my way to the cafeteria.
Voss Group’s cafeteria offered an impressive variety of food. It was more like a luxury buffet than a company dining hall.
Ethan always believed that well-fed employees worked better.
Because I had skipped breakfast to make it to the early meeting, my stomach had been growling all morning. By lunchtime, I was so hungry that I had lost my appetite entirely.
