Chapter 650:
When I got back to my hotel room, I ordered a simple dinner for myself.
As I sorted through the documents in my bag, my fingers brushed against the box of stomach medicine I had brought back.
The doubts that had quieted down returned, wrapping around my mind.
Ethan was on the other side of the world. How could he possibly know that my stomach had suddenly started hurting?
An unbelievable idea suddenly flashed through my mind. Could he have secretly placed a surveillance camera in my office?

That possibility kept ringing in my head.
I stared at the medicine box and remembered Ethan’s sharp gaze that always seemed to see through everything. A chill ran down my spine, and cold sweat slowly formed on my back.
Tomorrow, I had to inspect my office thoroughly.
The following morning, I arrived at the Voss Group building right on schedule.
Even though I had already handed in my resignation, I couldn’t bring myself to be careless. My professional habits were too deeply rooted.
This project was the best opportunity my team had to prove their skills. As long as I was still serving as department director, I had a responsibility to give it everything I had and make sure I didn’t hold them back.
The moment I stepped into the lobby, I noticed two familiar figures arguing near the elevator.
Alex stood there with a deep frown while Zoe exchanged words with him without backing down. Both of them looked visibly irritated.
Remembering the unpleasant encounter I’d had with Zoe the day before, I had no desire to get dragged into another conflict first thing in the morning. I lowered the brim of my hat and quietly headed toward the freight elevator instead.
I had just set my bag on my desk when Alex entered my office carrying a carefully packed, warm breakfast.
“Good morning, Lianne,” he greeted with a smile as he set the food down in front of me.
I immediately declined. “Thanks, Alex — but no. It might give people the wrong idea.”
I had always been careful to avoid anything that could create misunderstandings with male coworkers, especially in an office where rumors spread way too fast.
“No, no, you’ve misunderstood,” Alex quickly explained, pointing toward the hallway. “This is one of the company’s new staff benefits programs. The boss — no, the head office — announced it this morning. Everyone gets breakfast now, and the administration department is handing these out. It’s not just yours.”
I paused and looked at the warm bowl of oatmeal and the freshly made sandwich. My heart suddenly jolted.
A staff benefits program?
I couldn’t help but suspect. Had Ethan set up this new policy just because I skipped breakfast and ended up with a stomachache the day before?
He had always been meticulous. Since he wanted to take care of me, he arranged everything so naturally that no one would suspect a thing. He even extended the same treatment to everyone else, just to make it seem like an ordinary company policy.
