Chapter 667:
I picked up the card attached to it. The handwriting was Zoe’s. “Ms. Riley, I’m sorry. Please forgive my earlier impulsiveness and prejudice. I hope you can accept my apology.”
I stared at the bouquet, my emotions strangely complicated.
My first instinct was to return it immediately. But after a moment’s thought, I realized that rejecting it so directly might make me seem petty and could easily create even more resentment.
With a soft sigh, I opened the company’s messaging app and sent Zoe a brief reply. “I got the flowers. Thank you for the gesture. Let’s leave the past behind and focus on our work from now on.”

Zoe replied instantly, her message overflowing with gratitude.
By the time work finally ended, I felt exhausted to the bone.
Thankfully, my father’s case was progressing smoothly. All that remained was to wait for the official filing, which meant I no longer had to run back and forth to the law firm under the blazing afternoon sun.
I took the bouquet with me, hailed a taxi, and headed home. On the way, I stopped by the supermarket to buy some fresh ingredients.
After returning to my apartment, I hardly had a chance to sit down. Afraid the flowers would wilt overnight, I quickly found a vase and prepared to arrange them. Just as I picked up the scissors, my phone began ringing nonstop.
It was Tracy.
“Lianne! Hurry and check the Voss Group internal forum!” she shouted, her voice so anxious it had turned shrill. “You’re trending! Someone posted a gossip thread about you!”
Startled, I nearly cut the wrong flower stem. “What?” I said in disbelief. “That’s impossible. I keep a low profile at work and barely interact with anyone unless it’s for work. What could they possibly be gossiping about?”
“Just go look!” Tracy urged. “The entire company is talking about it right now!”
I quickly ended the call and opened the forum.
The first post at the top of the page immediately drew my attention. “The mysterious new director was spotted after work carrying a huge bouquet. Rumor has it she has a secret admirer!”
A photo showed me leaving the office with the flowers in my arms.
Although only my back was visible, the perfectly fitted business suit I wore made it easy for anyone who knew me to recognize who it was.
The comments had already blown up. People were throwing out wild guesses, and more secretly taken photos from different angles kept appearing.
“This woman doesn’t look like an ordinary returnee at all. Just look at the handbag she’s carrying. Isn’t that a limited edition?”
“Am I the only one who thinks she looks familiar? I’ve worked for Alpha for years, and I recall seeing her with Alpha a few years back…”
“Stop spreading rumors. The woman who used to be close to Alpha left a long time ago…”
My breathing quickened.
The rumors from my past at Voss Group had once spread throughout the company. If those old stories resurfaced now, the peaceful life I had worked so hard to rebuild could be destroyed all over again.
