Chapter 672:
I deliberately lingered in the office after hours, waiting for the crowd to thin out. Once most people were gone, I trimmed the bouquet down to reduce its bulk, hefted the rest, and carried it all downstairs.
I had just made it to the company entrance and was reaching for my phone to call a cab when a familiar black sedan glided to a stop right in front of me.
Alex lowered the window and gave an eager wave. “Lianne, still waiting for a cab? Perfect timing! I can give you a ride.”
He started to step out of the car to help with the bouquet, but I quickly stepped back and politely turned him down. “Don’t worry about it, Alex. I already called a car — it should be pulling up any moment.”
Alex hesitated for a moment, then shot me a knowing grin, his tone half-teasing. “I see. You’re afraid Ethan might get the wrong idea if he hears I drove you home, aren’t you? And these flowers, they have to be from him, don’t they? Quite the statement.”
As though something had just crossed his mind, Alex let out a sigh and added, “By the way, I really feel sorry for Brian. He made the mistake of going up against Ethan back then, and now he’s been shunted off to some dead-end department. Word is he can’t even land a decent project anymore. Ethan’s possessiveness is honestly suffocating.”

Lianne’s POV:
The mention of Brian was like a switch, instantly souring my mood as old, bitter memories flooded back.
I cut Alex off coldly. “Alex, I don’t want to hear a single word about Brian. If that’s all you wanted to say, I’m leaving.”
Seeing the fury I couldn’t hide, Alex fumbled through a hasty apology and promptly drove off.
The relief had barely settled in my chest before my bag came alive with a frantic vibration.
When I saw Noah calling, the corners of my lips lifted despite myself.
This had to be it — Ethan, too proud to call himself, had sent Noah to deliver the triumphant news that the flowers were his grand gesture.
I answered with smugness already forming on my tongue, but Noah’s panicked tone wiped it all away in an instant.
“Ms. Riley, we have a problem!” Noah’s voice was hushed, but I could still make out muffled thumps in the background, like furniture being knocked over. “Alpha somehow found out you received a huge bouquet of roses at your office, and now he’s determined to skip his infusion appointment at Nshire Hospital tonight. He’s barricaded himself in the study and refuses to come out. He won’t even take his medication. He said, since you already have someone sending you flowers and taking care of you, it doesn’t matter whether he lives or dies.”
Noah’s words crashed over me like a bolt of lightning, leaving my mind blank for several long seconds.
So the flowers hadn’t been from Ethan after all?
The lavish bouquet of more than a hundred red roses suddenly felt unbearably heavy in my arms, as if every bloom were searing my skin.
