Chapter 676:
“When’s the earliest flight home?” I sprang to my feet so suddenly the chair behind me crashed onto the floor with a deafening bang.
Noah jerked in surprise. “T-tomorrow. There’s one leaving at three tomorrow afternoon. But you’ve got three face-to-face meetings planned. Calling them off could create major problems…”
“Book the ticket,” I interrupted, my fingertips pounding against the desktop, each heavy tap filling the room. “Tell everyone my condition has taken a turn for the worse and I’m not fit for meetings. Push every overseas trip back until further notice, or convert them into online sessions.”
“But the consequences could be severe…”
“I’m going home.” I looked up. My bloodshot eyes burned with fury I could barely restrain, the overwhelming pressure of an Alpha radiating from me without restraint. “By the time I arrive, I want to find out whether Frank’s flowers are still standing.”
Lianne’s POV:
Friday morning arrived beneath a veil of lingering fog that covered the city.
I got out of bed earlier than usual and left for work ahead of time.
The office was deserted, free of its usual bustle and constant chatter. The unusual quiet settled my mind in a way I hadn’t expected.
I calmly gathered everything needed for the morning meeting, printed the documents, stacked them in order, and straightened my workspace.
Seeing the spotless desk waiting for the day ahead, I felt my mood grow lighter as I remembered the weekend was almost here.

Once everything was finished, I lowered myself into my chair and automatically reached for my phone.
Nothing. The screen showed no unread messages.
An odd sense of disappointment quietly settled inside me.
Ever since I’d texted Ethan the day before, he had gone completely silent. The daily videos of the children never arrived, and even Noah, who normally couldn’t resist reporting everything, hadn’t sent a single update.
I couldn’t stop myself from wondering whether Ethan had finally forbidden Noah from contacting me behind his back.
Or perhaps he had simply become too occupied to spare even a few seconds.
My thumb lingered over our chat box for what felt like forever, yet I never found the courage to send another message.
“Ms. Riley, the meeting is about to begin.” My assistant’s voice pulled me back to reality.
The morning meeting lasted an hour and ended before I knew it.
Everyone had poured so much effort into this week’s due diligence projects that I decided not to schedule any weekend overtime.
As soon as the meeting wrapped up, Alex rapped his knuckles loudly against the table and declared, “Attention, everyone! We’re having a team barbecue tonight at a resort outside the city. We changed the plan so coworkers with families could join, and everyone’s expected to be there.”
With the entire department looking at me, there was no graceful way to decline. I smiled and accepted.
Wanting to reward everyone’s hard work, I ordered coffee for the whole team that afternoon.
Suddenly, a Snapchat friend request popped up on my phone.
