Chapter 682:
I should have gone back to the master bedroom to get some rest, but knowing Lianne was asleep in the next room kept my feet rooted to the spot.
I quietly opened the guest room door again. I only wanted to make sure she hadn’t kicked off her blanket, but the moment I looked inside, my heart skipped a beat.
The bed was empty.
“Lianne?” I called softly as I rushed into the room.
The bathroom light was on, and the door was slightly open.
I pushed it wider and found her sitting on the floor beside the toilet, completely passed out in her drunken state.
Fortunately, she wasn’t sick. She had probably come in to splash some water on her face and clear her head, only to fall asleep before she could make it back to bed.
The sight of her sitting there in such a messy, ridiculous state left me both upset and amused.

Her alcohol tolerance was terrible, but she still dared to drink so much at an event like that.
On impulse, I pulled out my phone and took a picture of her.
With her hair in complete disarray and her cheeks glowing red, she looked nothing like the calm, elegant woman she usually was.
Just picturing the look on her face when she saw this photo tomorrow made me sure she would cry out in embarrassment.
The thought finally brought a small smile to my face.
I bent down, carefully lifted her into my arms, and carried her back to the bed. Then I soaked a towel in warm water and gently wiped the sweat from her face, along with the lingering smell of alcohol on her hands.
Once I was done, I gave up on the idea of leaving.
I carried my laptop into the guest room and set it on the desk. Beneath the soft glow of the bedside lamp, I continued working while quietly watching over her.
This peaceful moment we shared gave me a sense of comfort I hadn’t experienced in a very long time.
Ethan’s POV:
In the middle of the night, I headed to the kitchen to make a cup of warm milk, but my thoughts refused to settle.
Only a few hours earlier, I had crushed every opposing voice, wrapped up my business in Nshire ahead of schedule, and rushed back as fast as I could.
At first, I had only planned to drive past Lianne’s apartment. Even if I could only catch sight of that soft light glowing through the window, it would have been enough to put my mind at ease.
But when I got there, her apartment was completely dark.
An uneasy, suffocating feeling crept through me.
After making a few inquiries, I learned that her department was having a team-building retreat at a villa on the hillside, with everyone staying overnight.
The moment I remembered how little alcohol Lianne could handle, along with the thought of all those men hovering around her with ulterior motives, my protective instincts surged out of control, burning with fury.
