Chapter 687:
I looked at the clean pajamas I was wearing. Then my eyes fell on the faint red scratches peeking out above the collar of his shirt. They looked like marks left by fingernails.
The room fell into an awkward silence. Neither of us mentioned the reckless intimacy we had shared the previous night. Even so, the unspoken truth hung heavily between us.
“Where are the kids?” I finally asked, my voice dry, desperately searching for something to break the suffocating silence.
“They’re still at school. They’ll be home soon.” He lowered his eyes before adding softly, “Go freshen up and come downstairs to eat. And be careful when you get out of bed. Don’t fall again.”
After he walked out of the room, I leaned back against the headboard and lifted both hands to slap my burning cheeks.
My mind was a complete mess.

Ethan and I. We had crossed that boundary again.
Ignoring the soreness throughout my body, I braced myself against the wall and slowly made my way into the bathroom.
Standing before the wide vanity mirror, I hesitated for a moment, then my trembling fingers gently pulled open the collar of my pajamas.
The woman staring back at me looked untouched. There wasn’t a single visible mark on my neck, collarbone, or chest.
He had carefully avoided every place that could be easily seen. Even after losing control the night before, he had still remembered to hide every trace of our indulgence.
But I couldn’t deny the glow, the lingering warmth, the strange fullness I felt.
There was no mistaking it. We had both completely lost ourselves the night before.
I slowly closed my eyes as fragments of memory surfaced one after another.
I had wrapped my arms around his neck and refused to let him go. Through my tears, I had asked whether he still loved me. I had been the one to initiate it.
My heart began to ache slightly.
Deep down, I understood Ethan. With the self-control he had now, he would never have taken advantage of me while I was drunk.
Last night, it was my fault. I had been emboldened by the alcohol and reached for him first, crossing the boundary.
Lianne’s POV:
I clutched the edge of the marble sink so tightly my fingers began to ache. My mind was in complete disarray.
Fragments of memory flickered through my mind one after another. I remembered holding tightly onto Ethan and refusing to let him go. I remembered fumbling with his tie in a panic. Most vividly of all, I remembered the look in his eyes, dark and clouded with restrained emotion.
An audacious idea suddenly popped into my head. If only there had been a camera in the guest room, I could at least find out just how ridiculous I’d looked the night before.
The thought disappeared as quickly as it came.
The mere image of our intertwined figures was enough to send warmth rushing to my cheeks.
