Chapter 693:
In one swift move, he grabbed my wrist. His grip was firm.
“Sorry,” he murmured. The coldness in his eyes faded the moment he realized it was me. He let go of my wrist and said softly, “I didn’t know it was you.”
“You have a fever.” I frowned. “Close your eyes and get some sleep. I’ll wake you when we land.”
Instead of doing that, he turned to face me. “I was the one who found Tim for you,” he said suddenly.
I went completely still.
The reason my father’s case had moved forward so smoothly was because of this lawyer who had been working tirelessly behind the scenes.
I had always believed it was nothing but good fortune. Only now did I realize that Ethan had arranged everything for me once again.
The weight of what he’d done was almost too much for me to bear.
“Lianne,” he said, clasping my hand tightly. His voice was hoarse, with a hint of rare vulnerability. “In return, I want you to spend seven days with me in Brinewick. Just for those seven days, let’s be like Tracy and Jeremy and experience what it’s like to truly be together. I’ve never really been in a proper relationship before. I neglected you and hurt you over and over. I regret all of it. I really do.”

There was no trace of the proud Alpha I had always known. His apology was sincere and humble.
His words shook me to my core, but I also understood exactly what he was doing. He was intentionally revealing his vulnerable side.
He knew my soft spots. He had waited until this very moment to tell me about finding the lawyer, using the favor to awaken my guilt and leave me with no way to turn him down.
Even though I saw through his intentions, I still couldn’t bring myself to reject him.
“Alright,” I replied softly.
The moment I agreed, it was as though an enormous burden had been lifted off him. Still holding my hand tightly, he leaned back against the headrest and finally closed his eyes.
“I didn’t sleep at all last night,” he mumbled before drifting off.
For the remainder of the flight, I stayed still, letting him continue to hold onto my hand.
The slight jolt of the plane touching down woke him.
He slowly opened his eyes, the redness in them a little eased. Gazing out at the ocean beyond the window, he casually started talking about Brinewick’s weather.
Seeing him act so carefully around me, trying so hard to please me, made my heart soften.
Since I had already agreed to spend these seven days with him as a couple, I decided to let myself fully embrace the experience, just this once.
Playing along, I turned to him with a rare smile and said softly, “I know, honey.”
The breeze in Brinewick carried the fresh, salty scent of the ocean.
