Chapter 697:
“I can’t.” I hesitated, torn between temptation and reason. “What if the kids wake up and realize I’m gone?”
“Silas can take care of his sister. He’s a lot more dependable than you give him credit for,” Ethan replied without the slightest hesitation. Then, without any guilt whatsoever, he threw his accomplice under the bus. “Jeremy even booked my room directly across from yours so I could sneak over.”
“That’s not appropriate…” My heart raced as I tried to push him away.
“What part of it isn’t?” he asked, his lips grazing my ear before he reminded me in a low voice, “You promised me seven days. Lianne, during those seven days, you belong to me.”
Before I could think of another excuse, he bent down and scooped me effortlessly into his arms.
The sudden lift drew a startled yelp from me, and my arms instinctively circled his neck.

“Just stay with me while I sleep,” he coaxed softly.
Cradling me securely against his chest, he carried me out of the bathroom, across the hallway, and into the room opposite mine.
The afternoon sun filtered through the blinds, casting shifting ribbons of light across the dark carpet.
When we finally woke from our brief but surprisingly restful nap, the phone lying beside the pillow buzzed nonstop.
Our group chat had exploded with messages from Tracy, who was relentlessly urging everyone to come downstairs for the barbecue. She even threatened to march upstairs herself if we failed to appear within three minutes.
Fortunately, Jeremy stepped in to rescue us. He casually told her Ethan was catching up on sleep after staying up all night for a conference. Then he skillfully diverted Tracy’s attention by announcing he’d managed to get his hands on some premium beef tenderloin for the barbecue.
I hurriedly ran my fingers through my slightly messy hair, straightened my clothes, and quietly slipped back into the children’s room.
Silas and Ruby were already awake, happily putting together a puzzle. Their bright laughter instantly filled the room with warmth.
“Mommy!” Ruby threw herself straight into my arms.
Smiling, I kissed her forehead before taking both children by the hand and leading them toward the door.
Just then, Ethan stepped out of his room. He had changed into a soft charcoal-colored shirt. After finally getting some proper sleep, most of the exhaustion had disappeared from his face.
A faint but genuine smile lingered in his eyes as he quietly fell into step behind us.
As we walked, he glanced around the resort before saying warmly, “This is my favorite resort out of everything I own.” His deep voice carried an unmistakable note of pride. “It’s peaceful here. Perfect for bringing the family on vacation.”
His eyes shifted to me, growing gentler. “But the biggest reason is that this was the very first project you built with your own hands.”
Heat immediately crept into my cheeks. I turned my face away, a quiet smile spreading across my lips.
