Chapter 704:
The peaceful surroundings nearly made me forget the bloodshed and endless conspiracies that had haunted my life for years.
But tranquility never lasted for long.
As we drove back toward the resort, evening darkness wrapped itself around us.
The beams from the headlights pierced through the night, and my heightened instincts instantly detected something unusual in the atmosphere.
Parked at the entrance of the resort was a black SUV that immediately caught my attention.
Its license plate, its make, even the subtle aura of authority it carried, I recognized every detail. It belonged to Thorn Pack.
My hands tightened around the steering wheel until my knuckles turned pale.
So they had managed to find me after all. It looked like the elders back at the pack had finally run out of patience.
“Lianne, I need to take an important conference call,” I said gently, giving the back of her hand a reassuring pat. I motioned for her to take the children upstairs to the room first.
Only after I watched her disappear into the elevator did the last trace of warmth vanish from my eyes. I turned and strode toward the black SUV.

Rola hadn’t come. That was exactly as I had expected.
As I pushed open the doors to the resort’s meeting room, I immediately saw Philip Yates, the eldest and most unyielding elder of Thorn Pack, sitting at the head of the table.
“Ethan, you’ve disappointed us,” Philip snapped before I could even take my seat, slamming his palm against the table. His aged voice was heavy with frustration. “For the sake of a woman, you’ve neglected the affairs of the pack and hidden yourself away in this resort. Have you forgotten that you’re the Alpha of Thorn Pack?”
I pulled out the chair across from him and sat down, casually unfastening the top two buttons of my shirt. My posture remained relaxed, yet an overwhelming pressure naturally radiated from me.
“If you’ve come all this way just to criticize my personal life, then I’m afraid this trip was a waste of your time,” I replied coolly.
Philip fixed his gaze on me for a long while before letting out a weary sigh.
The severity on his face gradually faded as he retrieved a weathered photo album from his bag and slid it across the table toward me.
“Your mother died when you were still very young,” he said, pointing at a photograph of a timid little boy nestled in Rola’s arms. His voice softened as he tried to reason with me. “It was Rola who raised you and cared for you. When you were little, you would cry whenever anyone besides her tried to hold you. Ethan, you can’t be this heartless. Are you really going to turn on Rola because of Lianne?”
I gave the photograph only a brief glance, my brows drawing together as my body instinctively tensed.
The warmth of those childhood memories had been genuine. The motherly affection Rola once showed me had also been real.
